  • Girls lose in opening round of NAS tourney

    For the Lady Panthers, Thursday’s game against Villa Madonna was a missed opportunity.

    First half fouls and turnovers were contributing factors in Carroll’s 46-23 loss Thursday Dec. 27, in the opening round of the North American Stainless basketball tournament at Carroll County High School.

  • Fall season proves record-breaking for six at CCHS

    Six Carroll County High School student-athletes re-wrote the history books this fall.

    Junior Michael Hall and senior Brandon Stewart set offensive records on the soccer field, while seniors Megan Harris and Caitlyn Burke and sophomore Kelly Layton likely broke records on the volleyball court. Senior Tyshaun Embs was featured in the Nov. 21 edition of The News-Democrat for breaking six school records on the football field.

  • Gibson named Player of the Week

    Carroll County’s Dallas Gibson was named the North Central Kentucky Conference Player of the Week for Dec. 3 through Dec. 9. He had 32 points and 13 rebounds in Carroll County’s win over Williamstown and 13 points with 9 rebounds in Carroll County’s win over Owen County. Gibson shot 62 percent from the field and 75 percent at the foul line in those games.

  • Boys drop second straight in final seconds

    The Panthers suffered another tough loss to a district foe Friday, Dec. 14, as Carroll fell to the visiting Gallatin County Wildcats 61-56.

    “We knew when we played Gallatin that it would be a very aggressive and physical game, and that’s what it was,” head coach Carroll Yager said. “It was a good basketball game. I thought our guys played well.”

  • Girls struggle to score early, leads to loss

    A 22-point halftime deficit was too much to overcome for the Lady Panthers, losing 53-28 at home Saturday, Dec. 15 to the Gallatin County Lady Wildcats.

    “It’s tough to beat them when you’re not getting the breaks,” Carroll head coach Paul Stone said. “They’re a really good team, and when they’re getting all the breaks too, it’s almost impossible.”

  • Henry hangs first loss on Panthers

    Riding high from their overtime win at district rival Owen County, the Panthers were pulled back down to earth Tuesday by the paws of the Henry County Wildcats. The visiting Wildcats defeated the Panthers 59-57 in a nail biter Dec. 11.

    “I didn’t think we were anywhere near as sharp as we have been,” head coach Carroll Yager said. “… I don’t think we were as focused and ready to play. We were coming off of a big win at Owen, and I don’t think we were as mentally into it as we needed to be.”

  • Sweet victory: Girls earn first win

    The Carroll County Lady Panthers basketball team earned their first win of the season, as they defeated district foe Henry County 44-35 at home. It also was the inaugural victory for first-year head coach Paul Stone’s career at Carroll County.

  • Winning on the road: Carroll wins in OT at Owen

    The Panthers remain undefeated at 4-0 as they survive an overtime district thriller on the road against the Owen County Rebels Thursday, winning 53-51.

    “Both teams played really, really hard, very intense game,” head coach Carroll Yager said. “Both of the crowds were into it. It was a fun atmosphere. We feel fortunate to get the win.” Yager said it was one of those games where either team could have won because it was so close.
