  • Panthers win Two Rivers Invitational

    For the fourth straight year, the Carroll County boys soccer team won their Two Rivers Invitational, held at Panther Field Saturday. The Panthers defeated Evangel Christian in game one and Covington Holmes in the championship to win the tournament.

    Carroll senior Brandon Stewart was named MVP, while the following Panthers were named to the All-Tournament team: Josh McCarty, Jay Damron, Michael Hall and Jacob Beach.

  • Embs breaks single-game rushing record in Carroll win

    Carroll County High School running back Tyshaun Embs is re-writing history during his senior campaign.

    Already the new record-holder for most touchdowns in a game with six and most points scored in a game with 36 against Pendleton County in the season-opener, Embs now holds the record for most yards in a single game. That record had stood since 1980, when Lonnie Mumphrey collected 360 yards against Beth Haven.

  • Carroll volleyball falls 3-1 to Trimble

    It was within their grasp, but the Lady Panthers could not manage to pull out a victory over border rival Trimble County, falling 3-1 Thursday night at home. Carroll won game two 25-23.

    Cross-country runs at Williamstown

    The Panthers cross country team competed in the first of six weekly NCKC meets at Williamstown Tuesday, Aug. 28. Also running in the meet were Walton-Verona and Owen County.

    Juniors Austin Crowell and Brad Osborne and freshman Austin Crank led the team. Crowell finished in 13th with a time of 20:08.3, followed by Crank in 15th with a time of 21.19.0 and Osborne in 21st with a time of 23:01.1.

    Carroll soccer falls 3-2 to Shelby

    The boys soccer team rallied to tie after being down two goals, but was robbed of a win or a tie by a controversial referee call, losing 3-2 to Shelby County Aug. 21.

    Head coach Ben Crutcher said he was not focused on this game going in because it would be his team’s fourth game in four days. He could tell from the start that his team was tired. It also was undermanned, with three starters out with illness or injury.

  • Cross Country competes in first meet of the 2012 season

    The Panthers running team competed in their first meet of the season Wednesday, Aug. 22 at Switzerland County. Also competing in the meet were Rising Sun and Southwestern high schools.

    Junior Austin Crowell led the Panthers with a 4th place finish, and freshman Austin Crank finished 9th.

    Junior Brad Osborne also had a strong top 20 finish for Carroll County.

    Sophomore Joshua Beach and freshman Alex Jeffrey ran well in their first high school meets, head coach Joe Creager said. Both finished the course and filled out the team score.

  • Bartley INT seals OT win, 33-27

    “One of the more exciting games I’ve ever been a part of.”

    That is how Carroll County football head coach Mike Weedman described his team’s come-from-behind 33-27 overtime victory over Lewis County Friday, Aug. 24.

    Down 19-7 until just before the half, Carroll came back to tie the game late in the fourth.

    That’s when the Panther ‘D’ shined.

    With first down on the 10-yard line and time ticking down, the Panthers kept the Lions out of the end zone, forcing the game into overtime.

  • Volleyball drops to Walton-Verona 2-1

    The Lady Panthers volleyball team lost 2-1 to the visiting Lady Bearcats Monday night. It was the first match all season in which the girls played three games rather than five. Five games will be the new standard next season. However this year, district games are played to five, while conference games are played to three.

  • Boys soccer defeats Gallatin off Byrd goal in OT

    Elbows flying, tempers flaring, tension mounting. Add in a dash of late-game heroics, and it must be a Carroll/Gallatin game.

    About a minute into the second five-minute overtime, senior Josh McCarty delivered a beautiful, high and deep throw-in from the right sideline toward the goal. The ball bounced over several players, and junior Taylor Byrd was in the right place at the right time, nudging the ball into the goal to beat the visiting Wildcats 2-1 Thursday night.

    Things did not start out so well for the Panthers, however.

  • Lady Panthers sweep out the Lady Demons, win at home

    The Lady Panthers volleyball team would not be denied. Down seven points early in game three, the girls rallied to win 28-26 and complete the three-game sweep on visiting Williamstown Thursday, Aug. 16.
