  • High school tennis courts now under construction

If you have driven down Hwy. 227 past the Carroll County High School in the past week, you may have noticed something is missing.

Construction began last week on the installation of the new tennis courts at the high school, meaning the old ones had to be removed. Tennis Technology Inc. of Louisville won the bid for the project at a cost of $103,222. The bid included three new courts, net posts and a vinyl coated fence with two gates. The company also will fix the drainage issues by installing a perimeter drainage system.

  • Henry hands Carroll district loss

The Henry County Lady Cats stole the momentum in the top of the first off two Carroll County errors and never looked back, defeating the Lady Panthers 6-3 in the 31st District Tournament semifinals Tuesday, May 21. Henry met Gallatin in the District Championship, and the Lady Wildcats came out victorious, 8-3.

The Lady Panthers committed six errors and struggled to string together hits on offense. Two of their three runs came on solo homerun blasts by Mackenzie Ogden and Kayla Williamson.

  • Panthers demolish Demons on senior night

The Panthers baseball team capped off the regular season with a landslide victory over the visiting Williamstown Demons, 19-7, on Wednesday, May 15. It was the perfect way to say goodbye to the team’s eight seniors: Zach Beckham, Trey Boles, Dillon Craig, A.J. Dixon, Derrick Nickell, Chase Osborne, Brad Robbins and Brandon Stewart.

  • Baseball season ends with district loss to Gallatin

On any given night, any team can beat any other team. Unfortunately, Monday was Gallatin’s night.

After defeating the Wildcats twice this season by large margins – 11-5 at home April 5 and 12-1 at Gallatin April 18 – the Panthers may have overlooked their opponent and took for granted that they would be sitting in the championship game.

  • Track athletes compete at state meet

Carroll County High School track and field athletes competed at the Class A State Track & Field Meet Saturday, held at the University of Louisville.

Junior Tre Burgin tried, but was unable to clear starting height in pole vault. The starting height was 9 feet 6 inches, which would have been a new personal best.

Junior Ashley Srouder threw just three inches shy of her personal best (also the school record) in her 11th place finish in girls shot put with a throw of 31 feet.
