Carroll County seniors Devin Gray and Dylan Jack ranked in the top eight in the state in their respective events in the first Outdoor Power Rankings of the 2012 season. Gray is currently ranked eighth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:10.81. He has his sights set on the school record in the boys 800 meter that was set by D’Anthony Collins at the 2008 State Track Meet with a time of 2:03.46.

Carroll County celebrated multiple first-place finishes in their second All Comers meet Tuesday, March 27. The Panthers hosted Grant County, Boone County and Covington Holmes. The girls finished in second place overall, while the boys came in fourth place.

For the Lady Panthers, Karly Prosser had strong showings in the shot put (first place) and discus (second place to Carroll’s Raenah Hawkins), and helped her 4x100 meter relay team in a strong race, head coach Joe Creager said.

The Lady Panthers defended their home court Thursday, March 29, beating the visiting Lady Devils 5-0. While the team was still not at full strength, the girls played well, head coach Juan Fernandez said.

Seventh grader Jessi Dermon competed in her first match as a singles player. She came back in the first set to force a tie breaker, but ultimately came up short. However, she dominated in the second set and finished out to win in the third, he said.

With players gone due to other activities, the Lady Panthers tennis team was forced to adjust in its match against the Lady Wildcats on the road. Despite a good effort, the girls lost 3-2.

In No. 1 singles, Lyndie Burns struggled with unforced errors and could not get back in to the match, head coach Juan Fernandez said. No. 2 singles player Pooja Patel dropped her first set due to nerves, but rebounded in the second and minimized her errors to pull out a victory. In No. 3 singles, Fernandez said Megan Harris “totally dominated her match.”
