The Lady Panthers defended their home court Thursday, March 29, beating the visiting Lady Devils 5-0. While the team was still not at full strength, the girls played well, head coach Juan Fernandez said.

Seventh grader Jessi Dermon competed in her first match as a singles player. She came back in the first set to force a tie breaker, but ultimately came up short. However, she dominated in the second set and finished out to win in the third, he said.

With players gone due to other activities, the Lady Panthers tennis team was forced to adjust in its match against the Lady Wildcats on the road. Despite a good effort, the girls lost 3-2.

In No. 1 singles, Lyndie Burns struggled with unforced errors and could not get back in to the match, head coach Juan Fernandez said. No. 2 singles player Pooja Patel dropped her first set due to nerves, but rebounded in the second and minimized her errors to pull out a victory. In No. 3 singles, Fernandez said Megan Harris “totally dominated her match.”

Carroll County baseball finished 2-1 in the Jim Dougherty Memorial Tournament on Saturday, March 31 and Sunday, April 1. The Panthers lost their first game against Beechwood, 4-0, but recovered with victories over Silver Grove and Dayton.

Head coach Josh Mefford said his team played well overall. Junior Dillon Craig was awarded the plaque for the All-Tournament team for his hitting and pitching in Carroll’s game against Beechwood.

The Panthers jumped out to a first inning 2-0 lead, but gave up seven runs in the fourth and fifth innings to lose 7-2 to St. Henry at home Monday, April 2.

“Fifth and sixth inning, same old fifth and sixth inning we always have,” head coach Josh Mefford said. “We just struggle; we struggle defensively every game. Sometimes we score enough runs to work through it and sometimes we don’t. We only had two runs today, so (we) couldn’t recover from it.”
