  • Track Meet | March 28, 2012

    The Panthers were in action Tuesday, March 20 at Shelby County, but were missing several key seniors due to the Winter Sports Banquet. However, the team had strong showings from the sophomores and middle school athletes, head coach Joe Creager said.

    The Panthers were led by seniors Devin Gray, whose performance in the 4x800, 1600, 800 and 4x400 helped earn the Panthers 10 of their 15 team points, and Dylan Jack, who finished 4th in the high jump earning the remaining 5 points.

  • Players recognized at winter banquet

    The Carroll County High School held its annual winter sports banquet Tuesday, March 20. The following student-athletes were recognized:

    Academic All State Honorable Mention (3.25-3.75 grade point average): Jayla Tomlinson, Brittany Arvin, Tatum McIntyre, Kirsten Arvin, Lauren Moore, John Perry, Evan Mefford, Jay Damron, Michael Hall and Stephan Fornash.

  • Carroll wins home opener vs. Trimble

    The Panthers jumped out to a 5-0 lead and managed to hold off a late-surging Raiders squad to get the win, 5-4, in their home opener Thursday, March 22.

    “I’m really happy about that because we’ve had trouble with (closing out games) in the past,” Carroll first year head coach Josh Mefford said. “We’ve had those bad innings where we’ve kicked the ball around, but this time they hit the ball … We kept our heads in it, and we made the plays we were supposed to make.”

  • Lady Panthers come close, but just short against Lady Raiders

    The Carroll County Lady Panthers battled back from a two-run deficit, but ultimately fell 3-2 to border rival Trimble County Wednesday at home.

    Trimble first-year head coach Tanya Black was overflowing with excitement following the game. “Our first two games we hit the ball pretty decent, but just couldn’t get over that hump and this time we fought hard and did well, very proud of them,” she said.

  • Tennis teams fall to Anderson

    The Carroll County High School girls and boys tennis teams battled Anderson County Monday in their first matches of the season. Head coach Juan Fernandez said, overall, he felt his teams played well, but were outmatched by two stronger Anderson clubs. The girls lost 1-4 while the boys lost 0-5.

    In the girls match, Fernandez said it was a little closer game than the score reflects. He said Anderson’s team is experienced and mature, while Carroll has one of the youngest rosters in the region.

  • Baseball juniors counted on to lead

    The Carroll County High School baseball team has enjoyed a lot of success in recent years and this year’s squad hopes that tradition will continue under the tutelage of first-year head coach Josh Mefford.

    Mefford, a 1998 CCHS graduate and baseball alum, previously coached the Panthers’ JV team and also assistant coached for a year at Trimble County High School.

  • Softball opens season with win over Grant County

    It’s been a long time since the Carroll County softball team notched a season opening win or defeated regional foe Grant County in a game. The 2012 edition of the Lady Panthers did both Tuesday, March 13, winning 3-1 at home.

    First-year head coach Dennis Hawkins said he could not remember when the last time either of these things had happened. A quick check on the KHSAA website shows neither have happened since at least 2002, the earliest full season statistics shown online.

  • CCHS 4x400 team wins first in home track meet

    The Panthers 4x400 meter relay team, made up of senior Evan Mefford, sophomore Michael Burns, sophomore Taylor Byrd and senior Devin Gray, finished in first place with a time of 3:48.24 at Carroll County’s All Comers meet on Tuesday, March 13. Carroll County hosted Switzerland County, Trimble County, Ludlow, Holy Cross (Covington), Williamstown, Bishop Brossart, Henry County and Owen County at the meet.

  • Lady Panthers show improvement in offseason for new head coach

    Juan Fernandez will be pulling double-duty this year as the head coach of both the boys and the girls tennis teams. This will be his first year coaching the girls, but he has had previous experience helping former head coach Larry Morgan with the team.

    Fernandez said he has had to develop a new coaching style with the girls versus the boys. More than anything, he has found that the girls need more encouragement from him during practices.
