  • Rebels defeat Panthers in 31st District tournament

    The Owen County Rebels diminished Carroll County’s hopes of reaching the 31st District championship, defeating the Panthers 56-33 in Owenton Thursday night. The Panthers finished the season with a record of 14-14, the most wins for the boys’ team since the 2005-06 season when they finished 15-15. This year’s squad was 7-12 in the region and 3-9 in districts.

  • Lady Panthers’ season ends

    For the second year in a row, the Gallatin County Lady Wildcats eliminated the Carroll County Lady Panthers from the 31st District Tournament, winning 66-31. Later that evening, Carroll head coach and athletic director Randy Mefford announced in an email he was retiring from both positions. He will remain as athletic director through the end of the school year. Mefford just completed his 32nd year of coaching. He coached the Lady Panthers for nine years after coaching the Panthers’ team for 11 years.

    Gibson, Hill named to all-conference team

    Carroll County’s Dallas Gibson and Nikki Hill were named to the North Central Kentucky Conference All-Conference Team. Owen County’s Sawyer Williams and Rianna Gayheart received the Most Valuable Player awards.

    The Lady Panthers finished fourth in the conference. Carroll and Trimble both held 2-4 records, but Carroll finished ahead of Trimble because they defeated Trimble in a conference game.

    The Panthers finished in fifth place with a 2-4 record.

  • South spoils senior night, top Panthers 74-45

    Carroll County seniors Travis Ellis, Evan Mefford, John Perry and John Walls took the court for their final home basketball game Tuesday, Feb. 14. Unfortunately, the evening did not end as well as the home crowd would have hoped, as the Panthers could not generate enough offense to keep up with powerhouse South Oldham (18-8).

    The Dragons hit 11 3-pointers, while the Panthers (13-12) were shutout from long range, a major factor in South’s 74-45 runaway victory.

  • Moving on: Panthers defeat Warriors in districts

    The door is closed on the 2011-12 basketball regular season. Now, it’s tournament time, and the pressure is on for teams to perform and players to step up and make big plays.

    Despite winning their previous two meetings, the slate was wiped clean when the Carroll County Panthers took the court against the Eminence Warriors Monday, Feb. 20 at Owen County High School.

  • Carroll girls lose 56-25 to Collins

    Carroll County Lady Panthers played excellent defense in the first half against Collins High School, down just seven at halftime. But the Lady Titans (20-9) came out of halftime with an offensive furry and outscored the home team 23-5 in the third quarter, ultimately winning the game 56-25.

  • Track and field competes in first indoor meet of season

    The Carroll County Panthers started the 2012 Season off with their first indoor meet at Mason County Indoor on Saturday, Feb. 10.

    Head coach Joe Creager said it was a great showing for five of the young Panthers. Each individual scored points for the team, with Raven Labrada scoring 10 for the boys and Taylor Baker scoring 5 on the girls side.

    The boys finished fourth overall, while the girls finished fifth. Carroll’s next meet is Saturday, Feb. 17 at Mason County.

  • Carroll sweeps Trimble

    Carroll’s Dallas Gibson was too hot to handle for the visiting Trimble County Raiders. He used his repertoire of inside post moves, grabbed offensive rebounds for put-backs and hit 10-12 free throws for a 30-point, 17-rebound-performance, en route to a 67-55 Panther victory Tuesday, Jan. 31.

    “I was really proud of Dallas,” head coach Carroll Yager said. “He just played really, really well, big difference for us for sure.”

    Lady Panthers lose on the road to Owen

    The Lady Rebels outscored the Lady Panthers 25-1 in the first quarter, a deficit to large to overcome, as Owen rolled at home 63-22 Saturday.

    “Owen County was a disappointment to me and everyone who came to watch it because we obviously weren’t ready to challenge them,” head coach Randy Mefford said. “... I’ll take the blame for that.”

  • Girls struggle on offense, lose 35-18 to Lady Braves

    The Lady Panthers stayed tight with the Grant County Lady Braves through the first half, but ultimately did not have enough offensive firepower to win the game, falling 35-18 on Homecoming night. It was also Coaches versus Cancer night, in which proceeds from the game’s admission benefited the American Cancer Society.
