Carroll head coach Randy Mefford summed it up best: “It just goes to show you, anything can happen in a rivalry game.”

The Lady Panthers (5-13) bounced back from a 10-point first quarter deficit to defeat the visiting Lady Raiders 36-34 in overtime.

Trimble (6-9) had the opportunity to end the game in regulation when referees called a foul with .2 seconds remaining, sending sophomore Paige Black to the free throw line for a pair. Down one, Black missed the first and sank the second, extending the game another four minutes knotted at 34.

The Lady Rebels outscored the Lady Panthers 24-9 in the first half, enroute to a 62-26 victory in the 8th Region All-A Classic on Jan. 11 at Williamstown.

Carroll (4-12) struggled from the field, shooting just 15 percent compared to 52 percent for Owen (14-4). The Lady Panthers also committed 24 turnovers.

Senior Andie Hardesty led the team with five points, followed by Brittany Arvin, Kelsey Ogden and Nikki Hill, all scoring three points. Lauren Moore and Makena Kindoll also scored one point.

Carroll County struggled against Gallatin County’s pressure defense, committing 27 turnovers en route to a 48-36 loss at home.

“That’s the difference in the game,” Panthers head coach Carroll Yager said. “We missed some easy shots around the basket, probably four or five at least, right there at the basket … that could have been a difference too. Big thing is we have to handle the ball a bit better. We’re going to keep working on things to do that.”
