  • Panthers win Two Rivers Invitational for third straight year, Stewart MVP

    The Carroll County Panthers faced the Louisville Evangel Christian School on the soccer field Saturday afternoon and rolled right over the Screaming Eagles, 8-0.

    The Panthers hosted the third annual Two Rivers Invitational tournament, made up of four teams, including Holmes of Northern Kentucky and Henry County in the second game, and a championship game topped off the evening beginning around 8:30 p.m.

  • Girls’ soccer beats Owen to capture their first win in program history

    Sept. 12, 2011 was a historic day for Carroll County sports. On that date, the girls’ soccer program won the first game in their program’s history. The win came at the expense of the Owen County Lady Rebels, as the Lady Panthers rolled 5-1 at home.

    “It was like we won the FIFA World Cup,” head coach Greg Damron said of his team’s reaction when the final whistle blew.

  • Trimble roasts Carroll in sweat match

    The Trimble County High School gymnasium was much like a sauna on a sultry Thursday evening last week as the Lady Raiders hosted Carroll County in volleyball. Trimble jumped to an early lead and never trailed in either contest en route to wins of 25-17 and 25-14.

    Trimble head coach Ruth Staples noted her team at times had a tendency to coast after building a large lead. In the opening contest Trimble fronted 22-10 before allowing the Lady Panthers a run that brought them within 24-17 before Trimble closed the door.

  • Panthers dominate second half, win 27-18 over Ludlow at home

    The Carroll County Panthers outscored the visiting Ludlow Panthers 21-0 in the third quarter to pull out a 27-18 victory.

    “One of the ugliest wins we’ve had in a long time, but I’m not going to complain,” head coach Mike Weedman said.

  • Boys’ soccer defeats rival Gallatin, 2-0

    It was a battle of the keepers through most of the game Thursday between Carroll County’s sophomore Michael Hedges and Gallatin County’s senior Collin Hartke. Both players made save after save, including a one-handed grab by Hartke, to keep the score knotted at zero through the midway point of the second half.

    “That keeper for Gallatin is a great player, a great keeper,” Carroll head coach Ben Crutcher said. “He made some stellar saves and I thought that Michael really stepped it up and made some great saves for us as well.”

  • Panthers hold on for 13-8 win in home opener

    As the old adage goes, ‘Defense wins championships.’ For Carroll County to achieve their season goal of winning the 2A District 5 title, the defense will need to step up and deliver like they did Friday night against the visiting Lewis County Lions.

    After putting up 237 rushing yards and 152 passing yards in their season-opening win over Nicholas County, Lewis was limited to just 33 yards on the ground and 50 yards through the air. The Carroll defense also forced two fumbles on the night, helping their team to a 13-8 victory.

  • Golf Results - Aug. 31, 2011

    Hogan qualifies for state

    Senior Lady Panther Quincy Hogan advances to the Class A State Tournament as an individual non-team qualifier after shooting an 87 in the 8th Region Class A golf tournament Tuesday, Aug. 23 at Fairway Golf Course.

    Carroll County shot a 406 as a team, good enough for second place behind Owen County, which will advance as a team to state. The other non-winning team qualifier was Walton-Verona’s Adrianne Mason, who shot a 79.

  • Lady Panthers battle back, but fall 2-0 to Lady Rebels

    The Carroll County gym was rocking Thursday night as the Lady Panthers and the Lady Rebels battled past the 25-point mark in their second game. However, it was not enough to get the home team out of their funk as they lost their sixth straight after winning their season opener, 25-22, 28-26.

    Despite the heat and an asthma scare from a runner, the Panther cross country team had a good showing for its first time out this season on Wednesday, Aug. 24, head coach Joe Creager said. The team was smaller than normal because it was a high school-only meet and several key members were missing due to conflicts with soccer.
    Sophomores Austin Crowell and Kelsey Ogden both finished in the top 15 in the five-team meet.
     


    The Panthers will be off next week to prepare for the first NCKC meet of the season on Sept. 6 at Gallatin County.
