  • Football Panthers notch first win of the season on the road over Pendleton Co.

    The Panthers came home from their first road trip of the season with a win Friday night. Carroll (1-0) beat Pendleton County (0-1) 27-14.

    “I think overall we did really well,” head coach Mike Weedman said. “… Pendleton County was well coached; I think they were a good team.”

    Carroll struck first with a 1-yard touchdown run by Travis Branum, but missed the point after attempt. Pendleton followed with a 64-yard touchdown run by Sam Harrison and succeeded on the two-point conversion.

  • Volleyball falls to S. Oldham, 2-0

    Serve-receive and killing errors continued to be an issue for the Lady Panthers as the Lady Dragons of South Oldham put together three long strings of serving points in their 2-0 win Tuesday, Aug. 16 at Carroll.

  • Panthers open season with blowout win

    The boys’ soccer team opened the 2011 campaign with a commanding 8-0 win Thursday over conference rival Henry County. This was the first opening-season win for the Panthers in its short history.

    “They played really good ball,” head coach Ben Crutcher said. “We did a lot of good things, but we’ve still got a lot to learn.”

    The Panthers scored their first goal with about 31:45 remaining in the first half when Brandon Stewart seemingly surprised the Wildcat keeper with a goal in the left side of the net.

  • Trimble defeats Carroll 2-0

    It should have been a long, knockdown, drag out, three-game fight between Carroll County and their border rival Trimble County, a team that beat them four games to one last season. Instead, the Lady Panthers stumbled out of their corner and into the ring against a team who would show no mercy.

  • Volleyball ladies win over Gallatin

    The Carroll County Lady Panthers’ volleyball team roared out of the gates and into the 2011 season Friday, winning 2-0 over district foe Gallatin County.

    “I certainly can’t complain,” head coach Kristen Hooper said. “I think the girls did very well. A couple of first game jitters the first game, but second game, I think we found a bit of a groove.”

    Girls finish in second, Quincy Hogan medals

    The Lady Panthers’ golf team defeated Williamstown, but fell short to Owen Thursday at Fairway. Carroll scored 224, while Owen shot 176 and Williamstown shot 256.

  • District changes may help Panthers’ chase for title

    The Carroll County Panthers’ football team has a single goal for this season: win a district championship.

    “The margin for error is very small, but we feel that it is time that we take that next step,” head coach Mike Weedman said. “This district is ours for the taking.”

  • Seven seniors lead this year’s Carroll cross country squad

    After a three-year drought, this could be the year that the Carroll County cross country team sends a player, or possibly a team, to the state meet.

    Third-year head coach Joe Creager said he has finally convinced senior track and field athlete Devin Gray to run cross country, which he has not done since he was in middle school. However, Creager believes Gray has the potential to advance to the state meet. The last Panther to do so was D’Anthony Collins in 2007.

  • Hogan medals in Grant County tournament

    Senior Quincy Hogan shot a 78 in the Grant County Invitational Aug. 2, earning her a fourth place finish and medal honors. This marked her lowest score in a tournament for her school career, according to head coach Jay Jones.

    Jones said Hogan had a great short game and showed a lot of patience in the match.

  • Lady Panthers soccer adds JV team as program grows

    In its second year of existence, the Lady Panthers’ soccer team is growing by leaps and bounds. The varsity squad has swelled to 26 players, although several will be playing JV as well to gain more experience, head coach Greg Damron said. He said a total of 33 girls expressed interest in playing, and he averages 24-28 per practice.

    “It’s been a great practice season so far,” he said. “So far we haven’t had any injuries. This time last year, we had three starters injured.”
