In its second year of existence, the Lady Panthers’ soccer team is growing by leaps and bounds. The varsity squad has swelled to 26 players, although several will be playing JV as well to gain more experience, head coach Greg Damron said. He said a total of 33 girls expressed interest in playing, and he averages 24-28 per practice.

“It’s been a great practice season so far,” he said. “So far we haven’t had any injuries. This time last year, we had three starters injured.”

The Carroll County Panthers’ boys’ soccer team took a giant leap forward last season, setting school records for the young program. The 2010 squad set school records for most goals in a season, most wins, fewest goals allowed in a season, largest shutout and most goals in a game.

“That squad from last year set the bar for what we can potentially bring out for Carroll County soccer,” head coach Ben Crutcher said. This is Crutcher’s ninth year in the program, seventh as varsity head coach.

The Carroll County boys’ golf team hopes to ride its end-of-the-year success into this season. The Panthers won three in a row to end 2010 and boasts three seniors on this year’s squad.

“It’s the first time I’ve had a bunch of seniors in a while,” head coach Warren McEuen said.

Soccer registration

Carroll County Parks and Rec co-ed youth soccer league registration will be held July 18-29 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Parks and Rec office.

The league is for children ages 2-11 (as of July 31). Older children may be required to travel. The cost is $25 for an individual, $15 each for additional siblings, and $15 for those under the age of 6.
