  • Panthers’ results from NCKC title victory

    The boys’ tennis team tied Gallatin County in total scores, but Gallatin did not want to play a tiebreaker, giving Carroll the win in the first NCKC tournament championship.

    Raven Powers had very solid movement of the ball and took control in all of his games, head coach Juan Fernandez said. Powers had a good tournament and did not drop a set throughout the tournament. He defeated No. 1 singles for Walton-Verona, Peter Lussi; No. 1 singles for Gallatin County, Joseph Ackermann; and No. 2 singles for Gallatin County, Joseph Mullins.

  • Softball falls short on senior night, 4-3

    The Lady Panthers were a hit or a passed ball away from securing a senior night victory over the visiting Lady Dragons. Unfortunately, it was not meant to be, as Carroll (5-19) fell to South Oldham (18-13) 4-3 Friday.

    The Lady Panthers struggled with passed balls all evening, as all four runs were unearned.

  • Track briefs - May 25, 2011

    Panthers add to number qualifying for state

    With the completion of the final 3 Class A Regional Meets last weekend, the Panthers found out that three more of their events qualified for the State Track and Field Meet this Friday May 27 at the University of Louisville. Those qualifying are Evan Mefford in the 300 meter hurdles; the 4x100 meter relay team of Ben Newby, Brody Newby, Ben Schirmer and Tyler Grant; and Destiny Tingle in the girls pole vault. This brings the total number of state qualifiers from Carroll County High School to 11 individuals.

  • Baseball briefs - May 25, 2011

    Panthers fall to South Oldham, 6-4

    Carroll (17-9) lost to South Oldham 6-4 on the road Thursday.

    Head coach Jay Jones said his team had a chance to win the game, but did not get enough production from the bottom half of their lineup. Ethan Stewart was credited with the loss on the mound.

    Zach Wise was 2-4 with two runs; Dillon Craig was 2-4 with an RBI; Stewart was 2-3 with an RBI; Tyler Gross was 2-4; and John Michael Adams was 1-2.

  • Baseball falls 13-5 to Henry in round 1 of NCKC tourney

    Carroll County High School’s baseball team was hoping to spend its Saturday at Panther Field, competing for the NCKC tournament championship. Unfortunately for the tournament hosts, they were unceremoniously eliminated in the first round against Henry County Thursday night.

    The Panthers (16-7) struggled to make plays defensively that they had made for the majority of the season, and the Wildcats (13-8) capitalized on the opportunities, winning 13-5 to advance.

  • Carroll County High School girls and boys tennis teams win first-ever NCKC Tourney

    The Carroll County High School tennis teams will go down in history as the first winners of their respective NCKC tournaments.

    With the tournament counting as one match, the Lady Panthers extended their winning streak to 10 in a row going into the 8th Region Tournament. The girls finished the regular season 10-1 and also won the North American Stainless tournament held in Carroll County.

    The Lady Panthers won the championship in a tie-breaker with Trimble County. The other teams competing in the tournament were Gallatin, Williamstown and Walton-Verona.

  • Baseball Panthers defeat Eminence, 14-4

    The Panthers pulled out a much-needed victory over the Eminence Warriors Friday, winning at home 14-4. The win put an end to a miserable week of three straight losses, including a loss the day before to Henry County in the first round of the NCKC tournament.

    The Warriors’ starting pitcher struggled in the first inning, giving up six runs on two doubles, three walks, one error and three batters hit to the Panther lineup before he was replaced. Relief pitcher Trevor Payton walked two more and gave up two more runs before ending the inning with Carroll up, 8-0.

  • Bob Coots Legends game May 21

    The second annual Bob Coots Legends game will be held at Panther Field on Saturday, May 21 at 7 p.m. The field will be open for batting practice and infield reps beforehand.

    The game is in loving memory of “Big Bob,” who coached for a number of years. All proceeds go to the Carroll County High School baseball program, which the Coots Foundation is a huge supporter of, head coach Jay Jones said.

  • Lady Panthers go down to the wire with Williamstown, fall 7-6 at home

    Williamstown senior Tori Wilhoit blasted a three-run homerun in the top of the sixth inning to give the Lady Demons (12-14) a 7-3 advantage in their game at Carroll Monday night. That ended up being the difference maker in the game, as the visitors defeated the Lady Panthers, 7-6.

    “The three-run homer, that was the difference in this game, and that’s on my shoulders,” Carroll head coach Ken Blair said. “That’s my inexperience calling a softball game.”
