The Carroll County Panthers struck early and often en route to a 11-0 drubbing of Trimble County in the Eighth Region All A championship game at Bedford Tuesday April 19.

The Panthers were the home team on the scoreboard by the design of the tournament bracket and played like the home team on the field. In the bottom of the first inning Carroll’s leadoff hitter, eventual tournament MVP Zach Wise, rode the third pitch off Trimble starter Jimmy Duncan beyond the outfield fence to get the Panther offense hammering.

The Carroll County High School track and field team competed against Williamstown, Walton-Verona, Grant County, Trimble County, Owen County, Holmes High School and Holy Cross of Covington Tuesday, April 19 at Grant. The boys’ team finished in second place behind Holmes, while the girls’ team finished in third place behind rivals Trimble County and Walton-Verona.

The Carroll boys’ tennis team overpowered first-year program Grant County, 4-1, on Tuesday April 12. While Carroll won most of the matches, head coach Juan Fernandez said there is room for improvement.

“A special mention to Tim Yup,” he said, “even (though) he lost, (it was) his first match he did very well and came back from (being) down 0-5 to 5-5 in the first set.”

The Carroll County baseball team defeated Gallatin County 20-2 Monday night in five innings after leading 14-0 after the first inning.
Derek Williams gets the win on the mound, allowing three hits, two runs and striking out six.
Ethan Stewart had three hits; Zach Wise had two doubles and a walk; Dillon Craig, Tyler Gross and Trey Boles had two hits; and Austin Crowell hit a double.
If weather permits, Carroll was scheduled to take on Trimble County in the All A title game Tuesday. The winner advances to play DeSales High School in the Sweet 16.
