  • Softball falls 11-2 in season opener

    The Lady Panthers could feel it. After being down 4-0 in the bottom of the fourth, the girls finally began gaining some momentum. However, errors and miscommunication fouled up their chance at a rally. Ultimately they fell 11-2 at home to Henry County (1-0) Tuesday, March 22 in their season and home opener.

    “We stood up to them pretty well for five innings there,” first-year head coach Ken Blair said, “and then we got young girls. They got a little excited, I guess, lost their focus. But I felt like we played pretty well up until (then).”

  • Home runs from Gross, Wise lift Carroll over Trimble

    The outdoor temperature was almost better suited for a hockey match-up than a baseball game when the Carroll County Panthers came to do battle with the Trimble County Raiders on the baseball diamond Thursday. Spectators who braved the cold either snuggled in blankets on the aluminum bleachers or huddled by their car heaters as the boys of spring held a frost fest on the field.

    Catcher’s mitts, fielders’ and batters’ gloves were no protection for the lads as heavy, gray clouds cast a gloomy pall over the event.

  • Baseball and tennis fundraiser

    Carroll County High School baseball and tennis teams will hold a chili dinner and a dessert auction as a fundraiser on March 27 from 1-3 p.m.

    The cost is $5 for the dinner at the Family Worship Center located across from Kroger on Hwy. 227.

  • Wise named preseason All-State

    Carroll County High School senior Zach Wise is one of 56 players in the state selected to the Kentucky High School Baseball Coaches Association’s preseason All-State team.

    “Zach Wise is a special player. To my knowledge, the first ever pre-season All-State (from Carroll County),” head coach Jay Jones said.

  • Experience on doubles teams a major factor for Lady Panthers

    After losing four of seven starters from last year’s team that finished 7-4, including the top three singles players and half of the No. 1 doubles team, it is understandable to consider the following season a “rebuilding” year. However Carroll County girls’ tennis head coach Larry Morgan is optimistic about the 2011 season.

    “I think we’ll be very competitive with the local teams, and as the year goes on, we’ll get better and better,” he said.

    Change is the keyword to the start of the 2011 season for the Lady Panthers’ softball team. Under the direction of new head coach Ken Blair, a former baseball coach, the team is making adjustments to all aspects of its game and strategy.

  • Baseball Panthers look to repeat last season’s success

    Losing 10 seniors in one year should be devastating to a program the following year in any sport. That would especially be true for a group that played a large part in the team finishing 20-11 and winning the “triple crown” — All-A tournament, the conference tournament and the district tournament.

    However, talk to Carroll County High School baseball head coach Jay Jones, and you will find that he’s not concerned.

  • Boys tennis home opener set for March 22

    Youthful experience is the key to success for the Panthers’ tennis team this upcoming season. The team lost just one senior last year and returns their number one and two singles players — freshman Raven Powers and sophomore Josh McCarty — and one-half of the number one doubles pair — sophomore Brandon Stewart.
