Ashley Srouder threw a season-best 27 feet 6.25 inches in the shot put, good enough for fifth place for Carroll County in a track meet Saturday, March 23 at Walton-Verona Sports Complex.
The Panthers competed against some of the best teams in the state, including a team from Dearborn, Mich., head coach Joe Creager said. Srouder was the only Panthers, male or female, to break the top 6 and earn points for the team.
There were nearly 20 teams in competition.
Brandon Franklin finished in ninth place in the shot put.

The baseball Panthers finally got the bats rolling Wednesday against the visiting Raiders, as back-to-back two-out rallies in the third and fourth innings set up a walk-off two-RBI singles by John Michael Adams in the fifth inning to win the game, 12-2.

Carroll County (3-2) registered 11 hits, compared to six by Trimble County (0-3). However, the Panthers still had their share of struggles, striking out nine times, compared to just twice by Trimble County.

The Panthers pulled out a close 3-2 win over North Bullitt Wednesday, March 20 at home. Overall, it was a very competitive match against a team with all but one senior, head coach Juan Fernandez said in an email. North Bullitt’s experience is what kept them close.

In No. 2 singles, Dakota Corbin came back from a set down to defeat Isaac Heines, win the second and dominate the third, 4-6, 7-5, 10-3. In No. 3 singles, Zeke Kates cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Harshel Patel.

Brittany Yocum hit a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Lady Panthers a 2-1 win over Walton-Verona in their season and home opener Tuesday, March 19.

“We needed that one to start off with,” head coach Dennis Hawkins said.

The RBI single was set up by a blast to centerfield by junior Sarah Hawkins that was within a foot of going over the fence. “It was almost out,” the head coach said. “The other coach said, ‘Well, that’s ballgame,’ but it hit the fence.”
