  • Burgin, Schirmer get PRs at Henry

    Tre Burgin and Taylor Schirmer each had personal bests as the Panthers competed at Henry County Tuesday, March 19.

    On a very windy and chilly evening, the track and field team competed against the North Oldham girls and NCKC rivals Henry, Owen and Trimble counties.

    The Panthers had a rough start with senior Nora Fremin and junior Michael Burns both taking pretty nasty falls in their races (100-meter dash for Nora and 4x100-meter relay for Michael), head coach Joe Creager said in an email.

  • Girls take 2nd at Owen

    The Panthers track and field team was in action as a full team for the first time in the 2013 outdoor season March 14 at Owen County against Owen County, Grant County and Williamstown.  

    The Lady Panthers finished in second place behind Owen County with a total of 87 team points. The team was helped by sophomore Stevie Ogburn, who took first place in the 300-meter hurdles, despite a terrible fall with only two hurdles left in the race, head coach Joe Creager said in an email. She also finished in second place in the 100-meter dash.

  • Panthers win opener, 6-1, over Oldham Co.

    The Carroll County Panthers defeated Oldham County, 6-1 on the road Monday. It was the first game of the season for the Panthers, and the first career high school win for head coach Jimmy Ray.
    Senior Dillon Craig pitched five innings of scoreless baseball, and senior Derrick Nickell pitched two strong innings in relief.
    Craig also led the team at the plate, going 4-5 with four RBIs.
    Ray said he thought the team pitched well and played pretty solid defense. If the team does those things, they will win some games, he said.

  • Tennis battles Trimble, Gallatin on home court

    The Carroll County High School tennis teams took on Trimble County (March 13) and Gallatin County  (March 14) at home last week.

    The girls defeated the Lady Raiders 3-2. No. 1 singles Lyndie Burns defeated Alex Lawhorn, 7-6 (6), 6-4; No. 2 singles Sarah McArter defeated Elisabeth Moore, 6-3, 6-0; and No. 3 singles Jessi Dermon defeated Ciarra Harmon, 6-1, 6-0.

    In No. 1 doubles, Taylor Courtney and Megan Harris lost to Kalee Cook and Micah Hess, 0-6, 0-6. In No. 2 doubles, Kendall Conley and Emilee Walker lost to Diane Payton and Whitney Wingham, 2-6, 2-6.

    The Carroll County tennis program continues to grow under the tutelage of sixth-year head coach Juan Fernandez. Fernandez began coaching the boys and became the girls coach last season.

  • Baseball returns all starters for first-year coach Ray

    First-year Carroll County High School baseball head coach Jimmy Ray takes the reins of a senior-laden team that returns all nine starters from last season. Last year’s team finished 15-16 and lost a heartbreaker to Owen County in the second round of the 31st District tournament.

    Ray is not new to the Carroll County baseball program.

  • Talented softball team has high hopes for upcoming season

    2013 could be a “banner” year for the Lady Panthers softball team.

    The girls lost just one senior from last year’s squad that finished 17-17 and lost in the first round of the 31st Districts to Owen County.

    The team is loaded with experienced talent, led by six juniors – Michaela Culver, Sarah Hawkins, Kelsey Ogden, Mackenzie Ogden, Kayla Williamston and Brittany Yocum – most of whom have played travel ball.

  • Spring Fever: Track and field excited for outdoor season

    The Carroll County track and field team is strong. Literally.

    Head coach Joe Creager said his team’s strengths this year will lie in the field events: jumping and throwing. The team also boasts a large number of juniors and seniors – four seniors and five juniors for the girls and three seniors and nine juniors for the boys. Unfortunately, not all of them have track and field experience.

  • High school indoor track season ends, looking forward to outdoor meets

    The Carroll County Panther track and field team competed in the 53rd Annual Mason-Dixon Games Saturday, March 2. The Panthers did well as individuals, but the team scores were not where we wanted them to be, head coach Joe Creager said in an e-mail.
    Mason-Dixon is equivalent to Indoor State, and the best competition from Class A was on hand to show what they can do.
    The Panthers were led by junior Taylor Byrd, whose diving finish was good enough for fifth place in the 400-meter run with a time of 57.1 seconds.
