  • Stepping up their game

    Three Carroll County High School seniors will continue their athletic careers in college. Zakk Hicks, Kelly Layton and Lauren Moore were honored at an athletic signing day ceremony May 1. Hicks will play baseball at Indiana University Southeast; Layton will play volleyball at Georgetown College and Moore will play basketball at Centre College.

  • Anderson shuts out Carroll, 17-0

    The Carroll County Lady Panthers came up short as they faced a tough task Monday night with the Anderson County Lady Bearcats, falling to one of the top teams in the region, 17-0.

    The Lady Panthers started out strong, sitting the Bearcats down in order in the first inning and then putting the ball in play during its half of the inning.

  • All 'A' Preview: Carroll County vs. Ballard Memorial

    Region 8 champion Carroll County Panthers (12-4) will take on Region 1 champion Ballard Memorial Bombers (20-2) in the state All ‘A’ tournament at 10 a.m. Saturday at Whitaker Bank Ballmark in Lexington, Ky. The winner will play Sunday at 8:30 a.m. in the final four, with the championship at 1 p.m.

    Carroll County defeated Region 6 champion Whitefield Academy to advance, while Ballard Memorial defeated Region 2 champion University Heights.

  • Panthers return to state All ‘A’ tourney

    Carroll County kept its state All ‘A’ Tournament hopes alive with a hard fought nine inning 6-4 win over Whitefield Academy Friday, April 24.

    Carroll County will be going back to Lexington’s Whitaker Bank Park for the second straight year as they try to improve on last year’s final four appearance.

    The Panthers used some timely hitting backed by strong pitching performances from Seth Hicks and Justin Ray to finally put away a pesky Whitefield Academy team.

  • Tennis sweeps Spencer Co.

    The Carroll County High School tennis teams swept Spencer County on their recent trips to Carrollton. The boys tennis team won 4-1 on April 23, while the girls won 4-1 on April 28.

    In boys’ action, No. 1 singles Zeke Kates defeated Clay Abell, 6-0, 6-2. No. 2 singles Micah Kates defeated Noah Wernert, 6-0, 6-4. No. 3 singles Kyle Vail swept John Matherly, 6-0, 6-0.

    No. 1 doubles team J.J. Fernandez and Bobby Perkins defeated Jacob Whitehouse and Owen Baxter, 6-2, 6-3.

  • Lady Panthers fight back against Lady Wildcats, but ultimately fall 6-5

    The Lady Panthers’ softball team may have lost a close one April 22, to Gallatin County, 6-5, but the team showed heart and determination, something their head coach was happy to see.

    Carroll (3-11) jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the top of the first. Gallatin (3-5) tied things up in the third inning and took the lead in the fifth. But the Lady Panthers did not quit, scoring two runners in the bottom of the sixth. Unfortunately, it was just not enough.

  • Corbin wins shot put, discus at NCKC

    Carroll County High School’s track and field team competed in the North Central Kentucky Conference meet April 21, at Walton-Verona. Sophomore Malachi Corbin won first place in both the shot put and discus events. In shot put, Corbin threw 40 feet, and he threw 112 feet 1 inch in the discus.

    Senior Destiny Osborne took second place in her two field events. In shot put, she threw 26 feet. In discus, she threw 76 feet 7 inches.

  • Panthers survives 2-1 battle over Raiders

    It was a pitchers duel in the opening round of the All ‘A’ Tournament April 16, between Carroll and Trimble. The Panthers held a 1-0 lead for most of the game, adding an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth. The Raiders plated a run in the top of the sixth and had a runner in scoring position in the top of the seventh, but were not able to capitalize, as the Panthers won, 2-1.

    Carroll’s Zakk Hicks struck out 13 batters on 114 pitches, while Trimble’s Michael Dunaway struck out 11 batters.

  • Carroll repeats as 8th Region All ‘A’ champs

    Carroll County Panthers repeated as 8th Region All ‘A’ Tournament champions with a 7-4 win over Walton-Verona Tuesday, April 21, at Panther Field. The Panthers will take on 7th Region champ Whitefield Academy at Whitefield later this week. The winner will advance to the state tournament, held at Whitaker Bank Park in Lexington, Ky.

  • Road to the title

    Another outstanding pitching performance led Carroll County (6-4) to a 7-0 win over Owen County (5-6) in an All “A” regional semi-final matchup.

    Sophomore Seth Hicks pitched five innings of no-hit baseball to get the win in the Saturday, April 18, game. Hicks walked two batters, hit another with a pitch and finished with seven strikeouts.
