  • Supplee honorary starter at Kentucky 300

    SPARTA, Ky. – Retired military working dog Sgt. Beyco and ESPN NASCAR analyst Ricky Craven will join singer/songwriters MacKenzie Morgan and Ryan Broshear during prerace ceremonies on Kentucky Speedway’s Sept. 21-22 NASCAR doubleheader weekend. 

    Sgt. Beyco will join retired U.S. Army Command Sgt. Major Jimmy Supplee and Morgan on the NASCAR Nationwide Series Kentucky 300 prerace stage on Saturday.

  • Hornaday Jr. wins Kentucky 225 in NASCAR Truck Series

    SPARTA, Ky. — Ron Hornaday Jr. scored his 50th career NASCAR Camping World Truck Series victory, his third series win at Kentucky Speedway through eight starts and third this season in Saturday’s “Kentucky 225.”

    The 14-year NCWTS veteran and his No. 2 Hollywood Casino Chevrolet crossed the finish line 0.438 of a second ahead of Richard Childress Racing driver Austin Dillon and his No. 3 Bass Pro Shops/Tracker Boats Chevrolet in the fifth-closest series finish through 13 all-time events at the track.

  • Carpenter wins closest race in Ky. Speedway history

    Ed Carpenter, driving Sarah Fisher Racing’s Dollar General-sponsored car, ran down series point leader Dario Franchitti in the waning laps of Sunday’s IZOD Indycar Series race at Sparta’s Kentucky Speedway to win the “Kentucky Indy 300.”

  • Accidents mar Madison Regatta, wrecked boat wins

    A hot, muggy weekend of racing on the Ohio River was dampened by two serious accidents on the water during the Madison Regatta Sunday.

    In the final outcome, Miss Madison’s Oh Boy! Oberto was declared the 2011 Lucas Oil Indiana Governor’s Cup champion. It was a bittersweet victory. The winning hydroplane was a broken battler and winning driver Steve David, a bruised warrior, learned of his victory in a hospital emergency room.

  • Speedway manager: Prepare for impact on area economy

    Communities in close regional proximity to the Kentucky Speedway need to begin bracing for the economic impact of next July’s NASCAR Sprint Cup race.
    That was the message expressed by Kentucky Speedway General Manager Mark Simendinger during a media day at the track last week. Ticket sales are already “way up” over previous years, he said, and the Cup race is still eight months away.

  • Kentucky Speedway bustling to prepare for Sprint Cup

    An exhaustive construction effort is underway at Kentucky Speedway to get ready for next July’s inaugural NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event at the track.
    Speedway Motorsports, Inc. Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Bruton Smith announced in August that the Gallatin County facility had been awarded a July 9 date on the 2011 Sprint Cup schedule. SMI owns the track that has hosted the Indy Racing League and NASCAR’s Nationwide and trucks series since 2001.
