  • Lady Raiders win over Lady...

    The Trimble County Lady Raiders closed out their regular season by claiming a 5-2 win over border rival Carroll County while sending their four seniors out in a big way on Senior Night.

    Carroll County’s Kyra Kane scored a run in the first inning to put the Lady Panthers on the scoreboard. Kane drew a walk, was advanced to second on a fielder’s choice ground out, then scored on a single by Mackenzie Hawkins.

    The Carroll County Lady Panthers defeated Walton-Verona on the road May 4, winning 9-7 in nine innings.

    Carroll’s Zakk Hicks and Logan McIntyre blasted home runs over the left field fence in the Panthers’ 9-6 win over Henry County May 5. It was Hicks’ fifth of the season and the first career varsity homer for McIntyre.

    The Wildcats (15-9) jumped out to a first-inning lead, as an error on a fly ball to left and an RBI single to left by Bodie Clark scored two runs. However, the Panthers regained the lead in the bottom of the second and did not look back the rest of the way.

    The season is now over for the Carroll County High School tennis teams. The teams competed in the 8th Region Tournament May 4.

  • 2015 Student-Athlete of the...

    The two award winners will be selected by the staff of The News-Democrat. Each varsity head coach was asked to nominate at least one member of their team for the award, based on the student’s athletic and academic performance for the school year. Eligible nominees were students in high school playing on a varsity team of any sport. Underclassmen who win the award are not eligible to win again.

    Carroll County Middle School girls and boys soccer teams took on Walton-Verona May 7 at the county park. The gilrs lost 3-0 while the boys won a hard fought match 1-0 as Felix Avila scored the only goal in the match.

  • CCHS football hosts golf scramble

    Carroll County High School football boosters will host a golf scramble May 30, at Cardinal Hills Golf Course. Tee time is 9 a.m. The event will include prizes, a live DJ, silent auction and 50/50 raffle, as well as contests including wear a skirt at the red tee, longest drive and closest to the pin. The cost is $240 for a team of four or $220 if registered by May 16. It also includes a meal. The maximum number of teams to play is 20.
