  • McMahan leads Panthers to win

    Freshman pitcher Evan McMahan earned his first career varsity win May 1 at Eminence, 16-2. He threw five innings, striking out two batters, walking one and giving up four hits. He also walked twice at the plate.

    After the Warriors plated one run in the bottom of the first, the Panthers went on an offensive flurry. They were also helped by the Eminence pitching staff, which collectively walked 13 batters.

    Seth Hicks hit a three-run blast over the left field fence. He also hit two singles, walked and earned six RBIs.

  • Panthers earn third at MCIT

    Carroll County finished in third place in the Madison Courier Invitational Tournament held April 25-26. The Panthers lost in the first round to Madison Consolidated High School April 25, but defeated Shawe Memorial High School and Austin High School the next day.

    Seth Hicks, Keifer McIntyre and John Michael Adams were named to the MCIT All-Tournament Team.

  • Carroll beats Hancock, 8-1, in...

    While it may have been Kentucky Derby Saturday in the rest of the state, for the Carroll County Panthers, Saturday, May 3, was all about baseball. The Panthers shot out of the gate and jumped on top early against Hancock County, eventually winning 8-1 to advance to the semifinals Sunday of the All ‘A’ state tournament, held at Whitaker Bank Park in Lexington, Ky.

  • Track competes at Henry

    Sophomore Brandon Kruzan earned two first-place finishes in the 110-meter and 300-meter hurdles May 1, at Henry County. Along with host Henry County, Carroll County competed against Owen County, Trimble County, Frankfort and Eminence. Kruzan finished with a time of 16.56 seconds in the 110 meters and 47.02 seconds in the 300 meters.

    Senior Michael Burns also earned a first place in the 400-meter dash (57.79 seconds). He also finished in third in the 200-meter dash (25.88 seconds) and fourth in the long jump (18 feet 4 inches).

    Carroll County High School will offer sports physicals from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. May 12. The cost is $5, and forms are available in the front office.

    Four Carroll County track and field athletes and the boys 4x100 relay team earned second-place finishes in the NCKC track meet April 22, held at Carroll County High School. Walton-Verona, Owen County, Trimble County, Henry County and Gallatin County also competed in the meet.

  • For the record books: Panthers...

    Carroll County High School baseball became the first team in school history April 23, to win one of eight spots in the state All ‘A’ baseball tournament, held May 3-4 at Whitaker Bank Park in Lexington, Ky. The 8th Region Panthers will take on the 3rd Region Hancock County Hornets at noon May 3. The winner will play the winner of Danville and Bethlehem at 8:30 a.m. the next day. The championship game is at 1 p.m.

    Girls top Collins, 7-3

    The Lady Panthers played from ahead the entire way, beating visiting Collins High School, 7-3, April 22. Sarah Hawkins earned the win on the mound, striking out seven batters and giving up eight hits and two walks.

    Collins threatened in the top of the first, hitting two singles. But with two outs, shortstop Mackenzie Ogden’s throw to Mackenzi Hawkins at home plate tagged out a runner attempting to steal home to end the inning.
