  • Hoop Shooters camp attracts 21...

    Hoop Shooters Basketball Camp was held during spring break last week at Kathryn Winn Elementary School gymnasium.

    The 21 area boys and girls ages six to 12 who participated in the camp focused on fundamental basketball skills, such as ball handling, passing and shooting; team play and sportsmanship, according to camp coordinator Chuck Roberts. Campers were placed into categories by age, physical maturity and skill level. Each camper received a camp t-shirt at the close of the three-day program.

  • Carroll County shows well at...

    The Carroll County Panther track team had a good showing at its only home meet of the season Friday, April 3.

    Head Coach Joe Creager this year’s rather large team did well. The boys finished third out of six teams, while the girls finished fourth out of five teams, he noted.

  • TCHS honors student athletes

    Trimble County Raiders teams gathered last month for the winter sports banquet.

    The dessert banquet was filled with reminiscing, laughter, conversation and everyone seemed to have a good time. For some,  it would be the last time everyone who participated in the boys and girls basketball teams and on the cheerleading squad this year would be to together in one room.

    Coaches gave speeches about their student-athletes and presented awards to many individuals for their efforts and accomplishments through the season.

  • Girls tennis team takes season...

    The Lady Panther tennis team took a win from border rival Gallatin County in their season opener last week.

    “I saw a lot of bright spots and a lot of deficiencies in our first meet,” head coach Larry Morgan said of his team.  The varsity won all five matches and the junior varsity won all three matches.

    Singles: No. 1 singles,  Katerina Woods C.C. defeated Brooke Clark G.C. 6-2, 7-5; No. 2 singles,  Priya Patel, C.C. defeated Anna Beth Edens, G.C. 6-2, 6-0; and No. 3 singles, Miriam Jones, C.C. defeated Christine Barlow, G.C. 6-0, 6-0.

  • Softball team defeats Gallatin,...

    Carroll County’s Lady Panthers picked up two consecutive wins last Tuesday and Wednesday over Gallatin and Trimble girls softball teams.

    Strong pitching from Mary Hawkins led the Lady Panthers to a 2-0 win against border rival Gallatin County Tuesday, March 30.

    Hawkins pitched a complete game and racked up six strikeouts.

    On a night when the weather brought drizzle, sunshine, hard rain and clouds the Lady Panthers worked hard to hold the Lady Wildcats off the base paths and to come away with the win.

    Catelyn Teague was born in Owensboro, Ky., but was raised in Bedford since she was 1 year old. This is where she learned to play T-ball – and discovered her love for softball.

    During the process of Teague’s skills improving, she showed that she was capable of playing with the best there was. The only way to prove that was to play with the guys.

    Whitney Ballinger, former Carroll County Lady Panther was named to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics All-America second team.

    Ballinger, a 2006 Carroll County graduate is a sophomore forward for the Campbellsville University Lady Tigers.

    Talent abundant

    for boy’s tennis

    Talent is abundant among members of the Carroll County boy’s tennis team, but its coach says players are just lacking in confidence this season.

    “Tennis is a head game; we see that a lot with professionals,” head coach Juan Fernandez  said in a recent interview.

  • Miller recognized as NAIA...

    A former Carroll County student has been named to the 2008-09 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Scholar Athlete team.

    Brett Miller, a 2006 graduate from Carroll County High School and former member of the Panther basketball team is currently a student/athlete at Union College in Barbourville, Ky.  

    He was named to the Division I and II men’s basketball Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athlete team in March, according to a press release from the college.
