After four very productive seasons as Trimble County High School’s head football coach, Johnny Poynter took a new coaching job at a high school closer to home.
Poynter resigned his coaching position in January, but continues to teach at the high school.
Under Poynter’s direction, Trimble snapped a 27-game losing streak, getting in a couple wins in the 2005 season, setting the tone for the next three seasons to come.
Dreams of a state-championship victory were shattered in the third year, when quarterback David Bird was injured.
