  • Raiders drop the ball, fall to...

    Despite high expectations, the Trimble County Raider boys basketball team fell to Henry County in the first round of the 8th Region All A tournament Jan. 21.

    As an early season favorite to win the coveted title, the Raiders hit the hardwood with high hopes, but the team’s low energy seemed to contribute to the 57-62 loss to the Wildcats.

    Guard Aaron Law, one of five seniors on the team, put 7 points on the board during the first period, but it wasn’t enough as the Raiders trailed 13-16 at the buzzer.

  • Panthers lose in Class A first...

    The Panthers had all the excitement, noise, crowds, cheerleaders and bands that go with high-school tournament basketball last Wednesday, Jan. 21.

    Everything except a win.

    The Carroll County Panthers hosted the All Class A boys tournament last week, but fell to the Wildcats of Gallatin County in the first round, 42-33.

    It was especially disappointing, because the Lady Panthers had also lost to Gallatin County in the final round of the All Class A just a week before.

  • Third time isn’t a...

    After falling to border rivals Carroll County in their last two match-ups, the Trimble County Lady Raiders were ready for battle last Thursday night.

    However, the Lady Panthers proved to be a force to be reckoned with in the triple-header that ended with the hometown varsity girls falling 43-53, to put the team at 1-14 for the season.

    From the tip off, the Trimble girls showed an abundance of energy at both ends of the floor. The first quarter was back and forth as the Lady Raiders had the Panthers by the tail to keep the score close at 11-12.

  • Lady Panthers scratch past Henry...

    The Lady Panthers pulled off a win in a make-up game last week against the Lady Cats of Henry County on a night when shots wouldn’t fall and rebounding was lackluster.

     

    The final score was 48-39 in the Lady Panthers’ favor, but the game played out much more closely.

    Then, in the final period, the Lady Panthers only managed 14 points from the charity stripe.

  • Season ends for CCMS boys

    The seventh- and eighth-grade boys basketball teams at Carroll County Middle School hosted their last game of the season, with the  Walton-Verona Bearcats as guests Wednesday night, Jan. 14.

    Between games, the team members and their parents were honored.

    The seventh grade team struggled in the first half of the game but got their feet under them near the end as they began to make some shots.

    At the end of the first quarter, the Panthers were down 2-14. They managed to make four field goals in the second quarter, bringing the score to 10-23.

  • CCHS teams earn top state ratings

    The Kentucky High School Athletic Association released its top 15 state basketball rankings on Friday, and Carroll County High School’s boys and girls teams each were recognized for their achievements in the sport.

    The Lady Panthers ranked eighth in the state for team defense leaders.

    Using statistics submitted by the individual schools throughout the season for a minimum of seven games, rankings are calculated by the number of points allowed per game.

    The Lady Panthers have allowed an average of 41.2 points per game.

  • Lady Raiders fall hard

    The Lady Raiders traveled to Owen County High School Jan. 14 to participate in the 8th Region Class A tournament. The trip home, however was a tough one as the girls fell 32-50.

  • Thrilling victories lead CCHS to...

    The Lady Panthers learned the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat following competition in the Class A tournament this weekend in Owen County.

    During the four-night tournament, the girls varsity basketball team had some incredible highs, defeating Williamstown in an absolute thriller in the opening game Wednesday, Jan. 14. But they lost a heartbreaker to Gallatin County in the final game, with just three-tenths of a second left on the clock.

    Head Coach Randy Mefford described the win over Williamstown as the most exciting game he’s ever been involved in.

  • Losing streak ends

    The drought is finally over.

    After starting the season 5-4, the Raiders went on a five game losing streak that ended at home Jan. 12 when the team defeated Gallatin County 63-55.

    Monday night, the Raiders finally played like a team.

  • Panthers spoil Wildcats&...

    The Panthers were the spoilers of the Gallatin County High School homecoming festivities, beating the home team by 10 points in an intense battle.

    The Panthers came out determined to end their four-game losing streak, and took it to the Wildcats on every possession. The Wildcats did not score until the first period was half over; the quarter ended with the Panthers on top, 17-6.

    The Wildcats played their normal tough defense, pushing hard, playing hard, never to be dismissed as anything less than formidable.
