  • Panthers football defeats Dayton...

    The Carroll County Panthers football team ended the regular season with a win, defeating Dayton on the road, 27-25.

    Orlando Vasquez had a strong all-around game, leading the team in rushing with eight carries for 82 yards, an interception and eight tackles, tied for second highest on the team.

    Dylan Groves was 6-18 for 161 yards through the air, with one touchdown and four interceptions. Colton Groves caught three passes for 104 yards and the touchdown. Evan McMahan caught two passes for 54 yards, and Vasquez caught one pass for three yards.

    Border rivals Carroll and Trimble County battled for a final playoff berth in their annual football matchup Friday. The contest wasn’t decided until the final seconds as the Panthers clawed their way to a 19-12 victory, scoring the winning touchdown with only 24 seconds remaining in regulation play.

    Trimble’s Raiders, having won only one game during the season, were playing their final game of the regular season so the game was a “do or die” contest for them. Win and you live to play another day; lose and the season goes into the history books.

    Kentucky Speedway announced it is adding another surface course layer to its racing surface in preparation for the 2017 season. Work will be done in October.

  • XC runs at Horse Park

    Carroll County High School cross country runners Haley Dermon and Lauren Cox competed in the 38th Lexington Catholic Invitational Oct. 17, at the Kentucky Horse Park. Carroll County competes in the girls 5K run - A and AA small school meet. Dermon finished 112nd with a time of 23 minutes 29.68 seconds, while Cox finished 232nd with a time of 31 minutes and 46.83 seconds.

    The Lady Panthers volleyball team played their best game all season Tuesday night against the No. 1 seed Owen County in what some are calling the best high school volleyball game they have ever seen. The No. 5 seed Lady Panthers left everything they had out on the court. Unfortunately, the girls fell just short in the intense fifth set, 3-2 (20-25, 25-20, 25-23, 21-25, 16-18).

    The Carroll County boys soccer season came to an end Monday, Oct. 17, in the 8th Region Tournament, as the Panthers lost 4-2 to Collins at Panther Field.

    Collins outshot Carroll 32-10. Carroll keeper Blake Reynolds had 12 saves. The Panthers came out on their heels, but turned things around as the game wore on, especially in the second half.
