  • Yager, Travis named to Wall of...

    Two Carroll County High School alumni have been the latest selected to join the Wall of Fame, a recognition given to the school’s outstanding student-athletes. Carroll Yager, class of 1971, and John Travis, class of 1974, will be honored at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 6, between the Panthers’ JV and varsity basketball games against Anderson County. A reception will be held at 5:30 p.m. in the cafeteria.

    Carroll County boys’ basketball kicked off homecoming night with a 78-50 district win over the visiting Eminence Warriors.

    Carroll‘s Wyatt Supplee’s old fashioned three-pointer off a made layup and free throw put the Panthers up 8-6, a lead they did not relinquish the rest of the game.

    Supplee added a 3-pointer and another layup as he extended the lead to 13-8. Bryce Butcher added a 3-pointer, and Devin McAlister and Eli Yocum each added two-point baskets as Carroll opened up a 10-point lead at the end of the first quarter, 20-10.

    Carroll drops tight game to Frankfort

    In the battle of the Lady Panthers, Frankfort squeezed out a victory on their home floor Jan. 20, winning 43-40, putting both teams with an 11-10 record. Carroll County outshot Frankfort 38.2 percent to 28.8 percent, but Frankfort outrebounded them 39-32.

    Frankfort’s Tamara Bennett led all scorers with 13 points.

  • Lady Panthers post huge second...

    It was a rocky game for the Carroll County Lady Panthers, but in the end, they held on for a 50-46 win over district opponent Eminence on homecoming night Jan. 27.

    The Lady Warriors jumped out to a 15-11 first-quarter lead, but the Lady Panthers answered, outscoring their opponent 21-4 to head to the locker room with a 32-19 lead.

    The Carroll County Panthers came out confident Tuesday night against South Oldham, frustrating the Dragons and forcing the starters to the bench for most of the first quarter. But South’s talent eventually overwhelmed the Panthers, as the Dragons left Carroll County with a 91-69 victory.

    The Carroll County Lady Panthers went toe-to-toe with Walton-Verona for two quarters, but Carroll could not maintain the pace in the second half as Walton-Verona captured the Eighth Region All “A” championship Jan. 19, 72-36.

    A strong second half by the Carroll County Lady Panthers carried them to a 53-39 over the Williamstown Lady Demons in the semi-finals of the Eighth Region All “A” girls’ basketball tournament at Walton-Verona, Jan.14.

    Weather forced the cancellation of the semi-finals on Jan. 12 and the games were played last Sunday at Walton-Verona. The weather has continued to play havoc with the tournament as the boys’ championship game scheduled for last Saturday was rescheduled for Monday and is now rescheduled to be played Jan. 17.
