  • Road to the title

    Another outstanding pitching performance led Carroll County (6-4) to a 7-0 win over Owen County (5-6) in an All “A” regional semi-final matchup.

    Sophomore Seth Hicks pitched five innings of no-hit baseball to get the win in the Saturday, April 18, game. Hicks walked two batters, hit another with a pitch and finished with seven strikeouts.

  • Softball falls to Owen, 16-6

    Led by senior shortstop Shelby Gambrell, Owen County dominated at the plate, en route to a 16-6 win in five innings over Carroll County April 15. Gambrell was 4-4 with six RBIs and reached in her fifth at-bat on a Lady Panther error.

    After giving up one run in the top of the first, Carroll plated two runs in the bottom half. Allie Beach singled and was knocked home on a double by Mackenzi Hawkins. Hawkins later scored after a single by Allison Harris to take a 2-1 advantage.

    Boys sweep Trimble

    Carroll County boys tennis swept visiting Trimble County 4-0 April 15. The No. 2 doubles match was not officially scored, as neither team had enough players to compete. However, Carroll County’s duo of Jeremy Walker and Bobby Perkins defeated Trimble’s Dylan Funk and Khris Weaver, 8-3.

    In No. 1 singles, Zeke Kates defeated Kenny Payton, 6-4, 6-2. In No. 2 singles, Perkins defeated Weaver, 6-0, 6-2. In No. 3 singles, J.J. Fernandez defeated Nathan Gibson, 8-2.

    April showers have canceled many of the contests in recent weeks. Here are some additional game photos from the Carroll County High School sports season so far.

  • Three Carroll hurlers combine...

    Carroll County made it three for three in district play with its second no-hitter against district opponents, defeating Gallatin County, 3-0.

    Three pitchers, Zakk Hicks, Seth Hicks and Evan McMahan, combined to twirl another gem in the district game April 11.

    Zakk Hicks pitched the first thee innings, striking out the first eight batters he faced and coaxing a ground ball from Gallatin’s Austin Spada to shortstop McMahan for the final out of the third inning.

  • Lady Panthers gain experience in...

    The Lady Panthers softball team gained some valuable experience Saturday, going 1-2 in the first Carroll County Panther Round Robin, sponsored by The News-Democrat. Tates Creek won the tournament, going undefeated. Simon Kenton was 2-1 and Bracken County was 0-3. Rainy weather Friday pushed the opening two games to Saturday morning, making it a long day for everyone.

  • The Adult Playground

    Carroll County Parks and Recreation began an adult basketball league this year, with games held every Monday and Thursday until May 14, at Cartmell Elementary. 

  • Panthers fall to the Colonels,...

    Carroll County struggled to string hits together, while the Oldham County offense rolled, winning 11-1 at Panther Field. Oldham County junior starter Griffin McLarty earned the win on the mound, striking out 12 batters.

    Panthers starting pitcher sophomore Seth Hicks struggled to find the strike zone, walking five batters–one called intentionally after a 3-0 count by coaches as a strategic move that resulted in an out.

  • Tennis beats Trimble, 4-1

    Carroll County defeated Trimble County in girls’ tennis yesterday 4-1 in a match between NCKC opponents.

    Jessi Dermon was back at number one singles after missing last week’s Gallatin County match due to illness. Dermon rolled to a 6-2, 6-0 win over Trimble’s Diane Payton.

    Ashley Davidson played in the number two singles match defeating Destiny Harp 6-4, 6-1. Davison had been playing doubles the previous few matches.
