  • Dragons bring hot hand to...

    The South Oldham Dragons shot lights out Tuesday night at Carroll County, knocking down 16-39 (41 percent) from three-point range and 51 percent overall to defeat the Panthers, 88-49. 

    “That’s their game,” Panthers head coach Brian Crank said. “If they’re hitting, you’re not going to beat them; if they’re off, you’ve got a chance. Today they were on. That’s them in a nutshell.”

    Second half dooms Carroll at Owen

    Owen County’s monster second half was the difference in the district re-match in Owenton Jan. 19, as the Lady Rebels defeated the Lady Panthers, 61-34.

    Despite a tremendous effort from the Lady Panthers, it was not enough to defeat eventual 8th Region All ‘A’ champion Walton-Verona, falling 65-45 in the semifinal Jan. 13, at Owen County High School. The Lady Bearcats defeated Trimble County two days later, 60-48, to advance to the state tournament.

    Miranda Groseclose and Abigail Aulbach were named to the All ‘A’ All-Tournament Team.

    The Lady Panthers were within six points in the third quarter, but could not pull any closer, losing at home to Central Hardin, 54-40, Saturday, Jan. 16.

    Head coach Paul Stone said the team (4-12) looked flat after a strong effort in the 8th Region All ‘A’ semifinal against Walton-Verona earlier in the week.

  • Carroll pulls off homecoming win...

    Carroll County senior Jacob Evans stepped to the free throw line with score tied and only eight tenths of a second left on the clock and calmly drilled the first free throw giving Carroll County the margin it needed to pull out a 60-59 victory over the Gallatin County Wildcats.

    The Panthers tried to make the win more difficult when they had a line violation on the second free throw allowing Gallatin County to call time out and set up a play.

    Despite an excellent second half, Carroll County’s offensive drought in the first half was too much to overcome, as the Panthers fell to Gallatin County, 70-59, in the 8th Regional All ‘A’ Tournament Tuesday, Jan. 12.

    Carroll County’s defense shut out Eminence’s offense in the second half, en route to a 47-10 victory in the first round of the 8th Region All ‘A’ Tournament Monday, Jan. 11, at Owen County High School. Carroll took on Walton-Verona in the semifinals Wednesday. Results were unavailable by presstime.

  • Gallatin defeats Carroll, 56-33

    The Carroll County Lady Panthers (3-10) fell behind in the second quarter and were unable to catch up, losing 56-33 to Gallatin County Saturday, Jan. 9.

    Both teams got off to a slow start offensively, as Gallatin’s Peyton Morgan hit the first basket of the game at the 3:18 mark. The Lady Wildcats (9-7) led 6-4 after one quarter of play.
