  • Carroll defeats Williamstown in...

    Carroll County High School’s baseball team began its quest for the school’s second 8th Region All “A” Classic three-peat April 14 when it traveled to Williamstown and came home with a 10-2 win.

    Before the team left for the game Carroll County head coach Jimmy Ray said he was nervous about the game.

    “This is an improved Williamstown team and if we do not play our best we could be sitting home this weekend,” Ray said.

  • Panthers extend win streak, beat...

    The Panthers jumped on top early against the visiting Southwestern Rebels and hung on for a 5-0 win Saturday, in game two of a Kentucky vs. Indiana doubleheader. Gallatin defeated Switzerland County, 3-2, in game one.

    After a quick 1-2-3 for starter Evan McMahan and the Panthers’ defense, Justin Ray started the offense off with a bang–a triple over the center fielder’s head. Alex Burns followed with an RBI double to right center, 1-0.

  • Carroll track and field compete...

    Carroll County High School track and field competed at a second all-comers meet at Shelby County High School March 29. The teams finished in last place overall in the girls’ and boys’ divisions, with Shelby County coming in first place overall in both. The other schools competing at the meet were Atherton, Owen County, Presentation, Kentucky Country day, Jeffersontown, Collins and Spencer County.

  • Twice as sweet: CCHS alumna...

    Carroll County High School 2012 graduate Hannah Devine joined an elite group when the Thomas More Lady Saints repeated as NCAA Division-III women’s basketball champions April 4, defeating Tufts University 63-51.

    Thomas More finished the season 33-0 and ran its consecutive win streak to 66 games. The current streak is second only to the University of Connecticut Lady Huskies’ 75 wins in a row.

     Carroll County hosted The News-Democrat Carroll County Classic April 1-2. Games were played at Carroll County High School and the county park.

  • Panthers win at Trimble, home...

    Carroll County traveled to Trimble County and came home with a 4-3 win March 29. Trimble jumped to an early three run lead as starting pitcher Justin Ray started the inning by hitting Robert Harris with a pitch. He scored when Trimble County catcher Adam Young doubled him home. That was the only hit given up by Carroll County pitching. A dropped third strike allowed Young to score. Two more errors in the inning allowed the third run to score.

    Carroll rallied with three runs in the top of the fourth inning.

    The Lady Panthers softball team picked up their second straight win Tuesday, March 29, with a 16-9 victory over Eminence. Seventh-grader Gracie Craig notched her first career varsity win on the mound.

    Tied at two, the Cooper Lady Jaguars scored five runs in the top of the third, and the Lady Panthers were unable to recover, losing 8-2 in the first of two pool games in The News-Democrat Carroll County Classic, April 1.
