  • Carroll’s season ends with loss...

    Carroll County’s magical season came to an end with a 5-0 loss to Oldham County (9-9-1) in the quarterfinals of the 8th Region boys soccer tournament Monday night. Carroll County finishes its season with a record of 15-8-0.

    Coach Ben Crutcher said he was so proud of his team. They battled all night against a very good soccer team. Oldham County is a very fundamentally sound team.

    Pre-game festivities honored 12 senior football players, one sports trainer, three cheerleaders and three choir members before the game fireworks began Friday night as the Panthers faced Owen County.

    The Rebels claimed the win, 59-41, in a game that was heavy on offense.

    But Carroll put the first score on the board for senior night.

    Carroll County Parks and Recreation will hold registration for its 2012 basketball season Oct. 8 through Oct. 19 from 10 a.m to 2 p.m.on the third flood for the courthouse at 440 Main St. in downtown Carrollton.

    The stage was set Monday night for an exciting game, as Carroll County and Henry County battled for the third time this season for a spot in the 31st District Championship against host Owen County.

    The two teams split regular season matches, with Henry winning in a shootout at Carroll Aug 20, 4-3, and Carroll responding 10 days later at Henry with a 3-0 shutout.

    The Lady Panthers came ready to play and had improved their defense and ball skills since senior night just a little more than a week before and greatly since August.

    Senior Night is always an emotional time for parents, players and the outgoing seniors. It wasn’t any different Thursday night for the four seniors at Carroll County High School. Amongst the hugs and the tears, there was a volleyball game that also was an emotional roller coaster.

    Collins High School (11-18) took advantage of the emotions in the first game jumping out to a quick 6-0 lead, prompting a time out from Carroll head coach Kristen Hooper.
