  • Turner and Courtney to play for...

    Trimble County High School seniors Christian Courtney and Cory Turner signed letters of intent Friday, May 16 at the high school.  They will play basketball this fall for NAIA Division 1 Lindsey Wilson College.

    They chose Lindsey Wilson “because coming from a smaller high school,” said TCHS basketball coach Bob Lauster, “they should transition well to a smaller college.  Also helping in the transition will be the fact that several other classmates from TCHS have also signed with Lindsey Wilson, he said.

  • TCHS taps new head coach for...

    Trimble County High School Principal Stirling Sampson introduced the school’s new head football coach to members of next year’s team Monday afternoon in the school library.

    Chris Collins, a native of Whitesburg, Ky., and current head coach at Atherton High School in Louisville, Ky., said he is “very excited” about the position.

    “Something I was looking for was coming ‘back home’ to a small town,” he said during an interview

  • Lady Panthers defeat Frankfort...

    The Lady Panthers have met Frankfort three times this year on the softball diamond, and have come away victorious every time.

    Thursday, May 7 the Lady Panthers traveled to Frankfort and played two varsity games winning both 4-2 and then 12-2, in a 10 run win.

    The Lady Panthers are even with nine wins and nine losses on the season and have blown out some teams and been blown out by other teams.

  • Large crowd attends spring demo...

    There were few, if any, empty bleacher seats at Saturday’s “Spring Bash” demolition derby at the Carroll County Fairgrounds. Dozens of others sat and stood in the beds of pickup trucks parked around the arena. Customers lining up at the fair board’s concession stand numbered nearly 100 at any given time during the night. A quick estimate of bleacher seats yielded a count of more than 1,100 spectators on hand for the stand alone event, one of the best attended demolition derbies ever promoted by the locals.

  • Mission Adventure Race pushes...

    Adventure seeking athletes will be paddling, hiking and climbing their way through Carrollton to participate in an 18-hour event that will test the strength and endurance of all who enter.

    It’s called a Mission Adventure Race and the 18-hour saga will begin at Camp Kysoc Saturday, May 16 at 6 a.m. and end at midnight, according to their website at www.dinoseries.com.

  • Bevill plays in NCAA women&...

    Lyndsey Bevill, currently playing for Northern Kentucky University and Carroll County graduate, has qualified to play in the NCAA women’s golf championship this weekend.

    Findlay Country Club in Findlay, Oh., is the site for this year’s championship that will pit 72 of the nation’s best women golfers against each other, according to her coach Darryl Landrum.

  • ARCA series opens speedway season

    SPARTA, Ky. – ARCA RE/MAX Series championship leader Parker Kligerman and nine-time series champion Frank Kimmel were among 26 competitors preparing for  Kentucky Speedway’s May 9 “Drive Smart. Buckle-Up! Kentucky 150” during an open test at the facility last week.

    Kligerman, 18, of Westport, Conn., is a former Formula TR and USAC Midget Series competitor who converted to stock car racing with Cunningham Motorsports, a long-running ARCA RE/MAX Series team which produced a fourth-place Kentucky Speedway finish in 2007.

  • Sullivan signs to play on new...

    A Trimble County High School senior last week signed on to be one of the founding members of Lindsey Wilson College’s new football team.

    On Wednesday, April 29, Larry Sullivan signed his intent to play for the Blue Raiders in the TCHS library, flanked by his dad, Joe Simpson, TCHS Coach Johnny Poynter and Principal Stirling Sampson.

    The college’s head football coach, Chris Oliver, was unable to attend; he and his wife had their first child, a girl, that Monday.
