 Reilley shooting goes to grand jury Oct. 12

Next month, a Carroll County grand jury will decide whether officers followed proper procedure during a July 19 incident that left a local man dead.

On Oct. 12, Commonwealth’s Attorney Linda Talley-Smith will present the grand jury with evidence obtained during a six-week investigation into the shooting of 33-year-old Michael Reilley of Ghent. Reilley was shot to death by officers following a pursuit involving Carroll County Sheriff’s Deputy Jim Hamilton and Kentucky State Police Trooper Dave Roberts.

City to get tough on enforcement
of sign ordinance

The anticipated onslaught of political signs promoting candidates in the November general election has spurred state and Carrollton officials to step up enforcement of several ordinances.

The state Transportation Cabinet has begun daily removal of signs – political and otherwise – that are posted illegal in the right-of-ways along many state highways.

Carrollton Mayor Ann Deatherage has instructed the city’s police officers to do the same.

Community turns out for ripe, delicious festival

Blue skies greeted festivalgoers over the weekend as hundreds descended on the courthouse square in Bedford, Ky., for the 16th annual Trimble County Apple Festival.

“We’ve just had perfect conditions,” said Leslie Cutshaw, president of the Apple Festival Committee. “It’s been a little warm, but it’s better than rain. We have really been blessed. Things have gone wonderfully, and I think it’s actually one of the better festivals in recent years.”
