Dignitaries, local leaders
cut ribbon at treatment plant

Local, state and federal government leaders met Monday, Oct. 2, at the end of Greens Bottom Road on a bright, sunny autumn day, under a yellow-and-white striped tent next to beautiful blue lagoons surrounded by bright green grass.

Only a slight odor of sewage belied the fact that the bucolic setting was the backdrop for the ribbon-cutting ceremony of Carroll County’s new regional wastewater treatment plant.

Transitional housing proposal likely to be scrapped

The transitional housing program for prisoners discussed at the Sept. 16, Bedford City Commission has likely been scrapped.

Bedford Mayor Russell Clifton said he discussed the situation with Pat and Ann Snyder, who own the home that had been its designated site, and said they have decided to back out of the program. Clifton did not give any reason as to why the Snyders changed their mind, but said this is a positive development for the community.

Lester disputes anti-gun claim

OWENTON, Ky. – The day was a beautiful one for spring in Kentucky. The temperatures were moderate. The sun was shining.

But on April 22, when a large crowd gathered at the Owen County Fairgrounds for the annual health day, there was brewing a storm of sorts.

That day, Owen County resident Colleen Stiver and district judge candidate Elizabeth Chandler Lester had a short conversation. As a result of the conversation, according to Stiver, Lester said she was against gun use. Stiver even went so far as to have an affidavit signed by a Tennessee attorney as to the substance of the conversation.

Gas-production facility to locate at Dow

GHENT, Ky. – A new production facility in Carroll County is expected to bring additional jobs to the area and fill a local industrial need.

Earlier this week, Airgas  Inc., based in Radnor, Pa.,  announced plans to build a new air separation unit on land owned by Dow Corning Corp. near Four Mile Road. The joint venture, which is expected to be complete by late 2008, means Airgas will construct a state-of-the-art, cost-effective facility on the established company’s property and therefore assume responsibility for supplying Dow Corning Corp. with the gaseous nitrogen used in production of the company’s numerous materials.
