Officers cleared in July shooting

A grand jury has cleared two local law enforcement officers of any wrongdoing in the shooting of a local man over the summer.

The Carroll County grand jury considered more than two hours of testimony Monday before ruling that deadly force was warranted on July 19, when police shot and killed 33-year-old Michael Reilley of Ghent.

Adult, three juveniles arrested on burglary charges

One adult male and three juveniles were arrested last week in connection with two burglaries that took place near the outskirts of Bedford two weeks ago.

According to the Trimble County Sheriff’s office a Stark’s Lane residence returned home on or before Wednesday, Sept. 27, and found his residence and garage broken into and ransacked. Among the items taken were a riding lawn mower, weed eater, a bottle of pills, a knife, and a telephone which had been missing from the house. Trimble County Sheriff Tim Coons said forcible entry was gained through the back door and that when he arrived to process the scene he found tracks left by the riding mower as it was driven away.

City council tables fencing
to enclose new skate park

A progress report on the city’s new skate park topped the agenda at Monday night’s city council meeting.

During both the council’s work session and its regular meeting, members evaluated the success of the first few days of skating and discussed possible improvements to the facility, including fencing and lights.

With signs warning of the “no bikes” rule finally posted, council members reiterated previous hopes of fewer police runs to the park to enforce the guidelines. They also discussed the possible need for more trash receptacles to discourage littering, which has become a greater problem since the skateboard equipment was installed.

Grant to help repair cemetery’s iron fence

ENGLISH, Ky. – Patience and determination will soon restore a century-old fence in English.

After more than two years of soliciting donations and searching for funds, Marie Garrett and other volunteers associated with the English Cemetery have succeeded in securing the money needed to restore an iron fence that borders the intimate burial ground.

Last month, Garrett was notified that a cemetery preservation grant application she submitted to the state had been approved, providing the cemetery with $5,436 needed for the project.
