Voter turnout expected to be high on Nov. 7

As the campaign clock winds down, Carroll County Clerk Marketta Brock is expecting a greater turnout at the polls on Nov. 7 than was recorded in the 2002 General Election.

Just as the number of registered voters in Carroll County has grown from just over 6,700 in November 2002 to nearly 7,100 in May 2006, so have the number of county residents who exercise their democratic right. Turnout for the 2006 Primary Election was recorded at more than 50 percent, an increase of 12 percent over November 2002.

Bedford man files as write-in candidate

On the last day, and within hours of the deadline, a Bedford man filed at the last minute to run as a write-in candidate for Constable in the Fourth District.

Although the decision may appear somewhat hasty and sudden Don McCarty said he has actually been thinking about making a bid for constable for several months.

‘The Fonz’ congratulates CCMS
students on a job well done

School pep rallies are nothing new. That is, unless you’re at Carroll County Middle School, where the top administrator rides a motorcycle into the gymnasium while dressed like The Fonz.

Oh, and there’s also not a sports team being celebrated for their prowess on the court or field.

Instead, on Friday, CCMS hosted its first academic pep rally to celebrate the main reason children attend school – education.

Band of Gold pirates invite to state semifinals

Gold and pirates always go well together, and even more so for the Carroll County High School Band of Gold, which has earned the school’s first invitation to compete in the Kentucky Music Association’s Class AA semifinals.

Members of the marching band braved the unseasonably cold weather on Saturday to compete in the Class AA East quarterfinals at Shelby County High School. While supporters of the band battled against gusty winds to keep a pirate ship and other props from blowing away, the Band of Gold performed their program, “Pirates of the Caribbean,” before a small crowd of spectators and several judges.
