Handgun found in student’s
car during search at TCHS

A Trimble County High School student was found to be in possession of a handgun and a small amount of marijuana Friday after authorities made an unannounced search at the school with a drug-sniffing canine unit.

The dog singled out two automobiles, and officials from the school were notified. The first car contained money that rightfully belonged to a student. A search of the second car, however, revealed a 9mm handgun in the glove box, along a half-smoked marijuana cigarette and a concealed weapon described as a “billy club.”

Delay in results on Election Day
was processing glitch

After a thorough investigation, Carroll County Clerk Marketta Brock announced last Thursday that “worker error” was to blame for a delay last Tuesday night in announcing election voting results from one area precinct.

Voter turn out 'average' in last week’s election

According to Trimble County Clerk Jerry Powell the turnout for last week’s election was “about average” even though it appeared to be heavy.

Turnout in Trimble County for the mid-term election was measured at 43 percent and Powell said that 2,685 out of 6,244 voters cast their ballots locally. He said there were no problems reported, and other than long lines, the election went smoothly.

Latest NAS expansion official

New jobs are on the way, via an industry expansion in Ghent. North American Stainless officials announced yesterday that parent company, Acerinox, has given approval for the company to begin an expansion that could lead to more than 80 new positions at the Carroll County facility.
