No new roads have been added to the closure list after a meeting Feb. 26, of Carroll County officials on the flooding situation.

Carroll County Emergency Management Director Ed Webb said the Ohio River crested Monday, and the Kentucky River crested Sunday. The Ohio River crested at 57.04 feet at 7:05 a.m. Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

Carroll County’s State of Emergency declaration has been submitted to Kentucky Emergency Management, and damage and public road assessments will begin after the water recedes, Webb said. Mill Creek, King’s Ridge and Sparta Sanders Road were mentioned as being damaged.

Water receded on Hwy. 36 East in Sanders, and the road was re-opened Sunday, Webb said.

Magistrate Mark Bates cautioned residents that just because the water has receded off a road listed as closed, that does not mean it is safe to drive on. Each road will be evaluated for safety first before it will be re-opened, he said. He reminded everyone to check the Carroll County Emergency Management Facebook page for updates.

The Red Cross shelter previously at the Kentucky National Guard has been moved to Relevant Church, 2505 Highland Ave. in Carrollton, Webb said. There were four people staying at the shelter Sunday night, he said.

Carroll County Schools announced Sunday afternoon that school would be closed Monday and Tuesday. Chief Operating Officer/Director of Pupil Personnel Mark Willhoite said, after including Tuesday as a day off, June 5 is the current last day of school for students if no adjustments are made to the calendar. Closing Day is scheduled for June 6.

Willhoite said school, police and emergency management officials will assess the water levels and road conditions and make a determination by late afternoon/early evening Tuesday on whether school will be in session Wednesday, Feb. 28.

County officials will meet again at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the downtown courthouse for more flooding updates.
