Nancy Jo Grobmyer | 1927-2018

Civic and community leader Nancy Jo Grobmyer died Tuesday, July 31. Grobmyer, photographed on Dec. 6, 2010, was the first woman to serve on Carrollton City Council, a position she held for 37 years. She served on several and was a founding member of many community organizations, including the Urban Forestry Board, Carrollton Main Street Program, Carrollton Woman’s Club and Daughters of the American Revolution.

Grobmyer’s other accomplishments include being named Kentucky’s Mother of the Year by the Kentucky Association of American Mothers, Inc., and Citizen of the Year by Carroll County Chamber of Commerce.

Grobmyer was the music director at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church for 60 years. She began teaching piano and voice lessons in 1960.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3, at St. John’s, with Evening Prayers at 7:30 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, at St. John’s, with Rev. Thomas Picchioni officiating. Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

The News-Democrat will feature a tribute to Grobmyer and her service to Carroll County in next week’s paper.
