Sheriff’s office to refuse standard checks for tax payments this month

-A A +A
By Jeff Moore

Anyone needing to pay their 2018 county taxes to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office will not be able to use a check, but instead must use a certified check, cashier’s check, money order or cash.

Chief Deputy Rob Miller said the Department of Revenue recommends all sheriff’s offices stop taking checks in April for unpaid taxes set to be handed over to the county clerk’s office on April 15. He said checks might not have time to clear and if one did not and came back, it would mess up the books as they move to the clerk.
