It’s no longer just a rumor–Wendy’s is officially coming to Carroll County.

The fast-food chain is currently constructing its new facility at 3177 Hwy. 227, where the Shell gasoline station was previously located. The projected opening date is mid-August, according to Dave Shumar, director of operations for Deters Company, a Wendy’s franchisee that currently owns five other locations in Northern Kentucky: Crittenden, Richwood, Burlington, Ft. Wright and Independence.

“We have always wanted to be in Carrollton but couldn’t find a site to build a new restaurant on,” he said.

Will Bach, who works in facilities construction for Deters, said the company has discussed opening a restaurant in Carroll County for at least five years, but it was not seriously considered until the company purchased the lot about two years ago.

Carroll County’s 55-seat restaurant will be the fifth in the United States to be built in the company’s new, modern design, Bach said.

The building will have a smaller footprint and be more energy efficient, Shumar said. Perry Building Contractors is the general contractor, and the company recently completed the Wendy’s remodel in nearby La Grange.

Construction crews began pouring footers Tuesday, Bach said. If the rain holds off, the next item on the list will be pouring the concrete pad. Residents should start to see walls coming up in the next few weeks, he said.

Despite the building’s smaller size, Shumar said it will have more than enough seating and will have the same menu as all of the other restaurants. The tentative hours will be 10 a.m.-midnight daily, with no breakfast served starting out. There will be a grand opening celebration announced as construction nears its conclusion, he said.

“We are as excited about being here as it appears people are to have us,” Shumar said.
