  • Free genealogical workshop Oct. 6

    The John Guill-Polly Hawkins Craig Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution is a service society wishing to serve Carroll, Gallatin and Owen counties. A genealogical workshop will be held Saturday, Oct. 6, from 10 a.m.-noon at the Owen County Public Library, 1370 Hwy 22E, Owenton, Ky. The workshop is open to anyone interested in working on their family tree, especially those interested in becoming members of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Sons of the American Revolution or Children of the American Revolution.

    The Christian Academy of Carrollton held its annual Fall Festival, Sept. 21, at the National Guard Armory. The festival had food, games, live music, an inflatable, face painting, a silent auction and a live auction. Funds raised by the festival go back to the operation of the school.

  • Vendors to offer their fares during annual festival

    The Carroll County Fall Festival will feature a host of vendors offering everything from arts and crafts to food during the three day event in downtown Carrollton.

    Booths will be set up throughout the downtown Thursday through Saturday.

    Festival organizers announced the following list of vendors this week:

  • McDowell is featured performer, festival grand marshal

    Ronnie McDowell has an amazing string of hit songs that he has amassed over the years, but it is his riveting stage presence and genuine warmth that fills the seats again and again.   • Fall Festival celebrates 70th year of local heritage

    The 70th year of celebration returns to downtown Carrollton on Sept. 27-29, with the return of the Carroll County Fall Festival, known to most as the Tobacco Festival.

    The tradition continues this year as the celebration brings back memories for those who came to the festivities with their family and now are continuing that tradition by bringing their children and grandchildren. Organizers say they have a slate of fun times for local residents of all ages and visitors that combines music, food, crafts, flea markets, petting zoo and dunking booth.

  • CCRTA accepting new members

    The Carroll County Retired Teachers Association met Sept. 21, at Two Rivers Restaurant with nine members in attendance.

    President Cassandra McBurney welcomed everyone to the meeting. She introduced new retiree, Robin Smith, who talked to the group about what she did during her years of teaching. The minutes of the last meeting were read by secretary June Mefford and approved as read. The treasurer’s report was given and approved.
