  • Carroll County High School cheerleaders and football team hosted the first PantherFest Aug. 10. The event included a scrimmage game between CCHS and Bethlehem, as well as food vendors, games and booths by local businesses. The cheerleaders performed and the Carroll County Middle School football players were introduced.

  • Most people know that bees, wasps, hornets and some ants can sting to defend themselves or their nests, but few may realize that handling some caterpillars can also produce painful results. A recent local Facebook post brought attention to an unfortunate encounter with a type of flannel moth caterpillar. Recognizing the few stinging caterpillar species in Kentucky may help prevent future irritating encounters.

    Caterpillars are immature stages of moths and butterflies that often have spines and barbed hooks. With most species, these are for show and harmless.

    It is a time of many changes for myself as this assignment brings me into a new community, a new position, a new parish and a new home.

  • The summer days are starting to dwindle away and with the advent of fall comes the time when students will return to school in order to go through another year of learning about the world.  Whether one is just beginning the journey with kindergarten or one has entered into the years of higher education, the process is basically the same: build upon what one already knows of the world to gain new insight, realize different perspectives and learn more facts and truths.

  • Did you know that on average a Kentucky SNAP participant receives about $122 in food assistance each month? The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is a federally funded food assistance program that provides vital nutritional support to people all across the United States.

  • The library has been closed a majority of this week. We will open back up Saturday morning at 9 a.m. When you come back Saturday the library may look a little different than it did on Monday.

  • On Saturday, July 5, 1879, the public learned that “the jail commissioners have reported to the county judge that they are unable to get a bid from anyone to build the new jail according to the plan heretofore adopted by the county court for $7,000, the amount which was appropriated for the purpose.”
