  • Years ago I read about a college student in the middle of final exams, distracted and distraught because her mother was ill and she wanted to be home with her.

    The mom assured her daughter that she was fine, that she would be OK. 

    After her last exam, the college student raced home, and as she walked in to see her mom, her mom opened her eyes, smiled -- and died.

    It was the day before the young woman’s 21st birthday.

  • St. John Catholic Church Mass schedule

    The holiday Mass schedule for St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church is as follows: a children’s mass will be said  6 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 24, and at 11:30 p.m., a Midnight Mass will be said.

    On Friday, Dec. 25, there will be mass at 10 a.m.and a Spanish Mass will be offered at noon; and Friday, Jan. 1, 2016, New Year’s Day Mass, will be at 10 a.m.

    Transfiguration Church in Perry Park will celebrate Christmas Mass, Thursday, Dec. 24 at 4:15 p.m. 

  • Well, my friends, here we are. Right here, once again in the middle of the holiday season. Thanksgiving is barely out of sight and Christmas is fast approaching. It’s hard to imagine that 2015 is almost in the rear-view mirror. But, alas, we must move on and, frankly, a delicious time is quickly approaching.

  • The residents of Wilson Way will be hosting Santa and other Christmas characters Dec. 17-20. There is no charge to tourthe light show but they will gladly accept donation for Big Brothers/Big Sisters, their charity for the season.
