  • Calvary Full Gospel hosts CAYR dinner April 27

    Calvary Full Gospel Church, 39 Mattick St., in Prestonville, is having their CAYR Dinner, Friday April 27, from 5-7 p.m. Fun, food and fellowship.

    Hymn sing May 3 at Bedford Springs

    Trimble County Hymn Sing will be held 7 p.m. Thursday, May 3, at The Bedford Springs Church, 43 Shepherd Lane (near nursing home) in Bedford.

  • The weather this year has reminded me of how little I like waiting. I am ready for spring. I have been ready for spring. I have been ready for warm weather, ready to spend time outside, ready for cook outs, and ready to go fishing. This year, though, we have all had to wait. It seems that winter has not been in a hurry to leave, and spring has not been in a hurry to arrive. In fact, just a couple of weeks ago, I was sitting in my office looking out the window at a snow shower. I have had to wait for this warm weather, and waiting is not my preference.

  • Hello once again, my friends. I am looking out the window and all I can see is sunshine and warm temperatures. OK, I'm kidding about the last part. The sun might be shining, but winter doesn't seem to want to give up its grip, so the temperatures are cool and breezy. But oh well, we all know spring is coming and, with it, all the great summertime foods.

  • The Carroll County Public Library is located at 136 Court Street in Carrollton.

    Celebrate National Poetry Month with a poetry contest and poetry reading at the library, entries in four categories: Elementary School, Middle School, High School and Adult. On Saturday, April 28 at noon, there will be a reception and display of all entries with a reading of winning poems. Prizes will be awarded in each category.

  • Carrollton Fire Department golf hosts its annual golf scramble April 28, at Fairway Golf Course, 4940 Hwy. 227 N in Wheatley, Ky. Proceeds benefit the CFD Christmas With A Fireman program and/or WHAS Crusade For Children. Shotgun start at 2 p.m.

    Cost is $60 for non-member golfers and $50 for member golfers. Golfers will compete on a four-person team. Fee includes cart and green fees and door prizes.

  • These children were the winners of The News-Democrat’s 2018 Easter Coloring Contest, sponsored by Hometown Pizza. Every participant received a coupon for a free individual pizza and the winners also received a coupon for a free large pizza.

  • In the United States, more than 17 million bulls that range in age from one day to one year are castrated yearly. Tetanus is a potentially life-threatening neurologic disease affecting all species of domestic livestock, including cattle, so it is important for producers to take steps to prevent it.

  • Carroll County Extension Homemakers will raise funds for ovarian cancer research programs by donating $1 per member out of their annual dues. This year we are also having three additional fundraising events to help.
