  • Choices! The Power of Choice! The sheer, raw power that resides in the choices we make! Look at Adam and Eve; their choices propelled them from the free-form flow of God’s Presence and Fellowship, into something entirely different and eminently less desirable.

I’m NOT talking about the choice they made at the tree that day; first

  • Carroll County youth Baily Blackburn, Kinley Huesman, Brayden Lair and Taylor Lair were recognized as “Great Neighbors” by Tractor Supply Company during the “Follow Us to the Fair” tour stop at the Carroll County Fair, June 2. Morgan Bohannon of Henry County and Trace Taylor of Trimble County also were recognized as “Great Neighbors” at the ceremony.

  • As James Freeman sat at his dinner table, eating a cup of yogurt, he tried to force out the word.

“Consider,” he said. He struggled again. “I… con-si-der… myself lucky.”

Freeman can carry on a mostly normal conversation, apart from about half his tongue being paralyzed. Several months ago, Freeman had no vocal ability whatsoever. His dysphagia that resulted from an elective surgery caused his mouth, tongue and several throat muscles to become paralyzed and unusable.

  • What excellent 4-H/Open Livestock Shows we had this year at the Carroll County Fair!

This year’s shows included dairy cattle, dairy goat, beef cattle, poultry, rabbit, swine, dog, sheep, meat goat, and horse. We saw some of our highest animal and exhibitor numbers to date!

I would like to send my most sincere thanks to the following volunteers that helped us this year:

  • Carroll County 4-H’er Cassidy Buchanan won several awards at the District No. 3 Kentucky 4-H Horse Show on June 3. She will be showing at the Kentucky 4-H Horse Show in Broadbent Arena at the Fairgrounds in Louisville on July 1.

In the Miniature Horse, Senior Division, she won the following awards:

    Ten Ls Splendor's

    Black Velvet

-Showmanship Senior: 2nd place with a blue Danish

-Jumpers 34"/under: 1st place with a blue Danish

-Hunter Senior: 1st place with a blue Danish

  • The Port William Historical Society met May 29, at the Masterson House with 10 members and one guest in attendance.

President Deborah Garrett called the meeting to order. She introduced our guest Jennifer Beach, Republican candidate for judge-executive. She spoke of her vision for Carroll County.

Secretary Cassandra McBurney read the minutes of the March meeting and they were approved as read. Treasurer Sam Burgess handed out copies of the financial report and it was approved.

  • At one time or another, we have all heard that exercise has benefits. Some of the most common benefits we tend to hear about are how exercise can help lower your risk for chronic diseases such as heart disease, stroke and diabetes, but the benefits only start there.
