  • CCHS students walked out and walked up March 14

    The loss of 17 lives from a school shooting Feb. 14, at Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., appears to be the straw that broke the proverbial camel’s back. There has been nationwide outrage with calls for stricter gun control and bans of certain types of weapons.

    As a result of the Stoneman Douglas shooting, survivors and their allies have turned their grief into activism and advocacy. Part of that effort was the March 14, National School Walkout.

    Friday, March 16: Breakfast, Donut or Pop Tarts and banana; Lunch: Fish patty on bun or corn dog, macaroni and cheese, steamed broccoli, cole slaw, Mandarin oranges, or Craisins.

  • Cartmell urged to report bullying, not to ignore it

    Motivational speaker Sir Rod Patterson delivered an anti-bullying message at Cartmell Elementary, Feb. 21.

    Patterson has been delivering programs for 20 years, first with a collaborative and now on his own for more than 12 years. Based out of Atlanta, Ga., he travels all over the southeast delivering the Five and Fun Tour.

    The Five and Fun Tour delivers five minutes of a message, then an entertainment section, followed by five more minutes of a message and then the program concludes with more entertainment.

  • CCMS students attend Kentucky Junior Beta Club Convention

    Thirty-eight Carroll County Middle School students attended the Kentucky Junior Beta Club Convention in Lexington, Ky., in early February.

    Students competed as individuals, teams and clubs in a variety of disciplines:

  • New Carroll superintendent could be announced May 15

    The search for the next superintendent of Carroll County Schools is in the search committee vetting phase.

    Last summer the Carroll County School Board hired the Kentucky School Board Association to assist with the hiring process after former superintendent Bill Hogan vacated the position and interim superintendent Ron Livingood was hired for a one-year term. Retired Grant County superintendent Don Martin is the KSBA representative working with the board.

  • Drama club brings “The Outsiders” to the high school stage

    The Carroll County High School drama club is performing “The Outsiders” March 23-24, at the Carroll County High school.

    “The Outsiders” is a coming-of-age novel by S. E. Hinton, first published in 1967 by Viking Press. It was made into a movie in 1983, directed by Francis Ford Coppola, and was an adaptation of the novel of the same name.

    The story is set in 1965 in Oklahoma and follows the rivalry between two gangs, the poor Greasers and the rich Socs, and only heats up when one gang member kills a member of the other.

  • BOE meets with site-based councils

    The Carroll County Board of Education met with each of the school site-based councils during the Feb. 22, board meeting.

  • EKU announces Fall 2017 Dean’s List

    Eastern Kentucky University has announced the students who earned Dean’s List honors for the Fall 2017 semester.

    The list includes the following students: Jacob Allen Wise, a senior studying occupational safety; Allison Glenn Fornash, a senior studying psychology,; Makaila D. Koos, a senior studying aviation; and Natalie Linette Abbott, a junior studying elementary education teaching, all of Carrollton, and Alexis Michelle Burgess, a freshman studying, family and consumer sciences, of Worthville.

    Friday, March 9: Breakfast: Cinnamon roll, or Pop Tarts and banana; Lunch: Chicken and cheese quesadilla or grilled cheese, black beans, fiesta rice, corn, fruit sorbet or apple.
