  • Energy investments paying off for district

Energy usage is down in the Carroll County School District, which means that energy savings are up. Over the first three quarters of the 2014-2015 school year, the district’s energy usage was 9.2 percent lower than the first three quarters of the 2013-2014 school year, saving the district around $10,000.

  • Athletic complex on schedule

The construction is on schedule and the turf company is on-site ready to begin work at the Carroll County High School athletic complex. The grade work is complete and the field will actually be a foot higher than the current grade, RossTarrant Project Manager Eric Steva reported to the Board of Education June 18. Drainage for the athletic field will be installed in the foundation.

The drainage to take the water across the road to the big pond also is complete, he said.

  • District welcomes former school leaders

The Carroll County School District invited all the past superintendents, retired teachers and others to attend the Board of Education meeting June 18, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the merger between Carroll County’s community schools and the Carrollton independent schools into one district, which occurred July 1, 1965.

Five former superintendents attended the celebration.

Rowland Haun was superintendent from 1974-76 and also was the principal of the high school after the merger.
