  • Bus crash families go to trial against bus manufacturer

    A panel of 16 jurors is now hearing testimony in civil lawsuits filed in Carroll County Circuit Court against IC Bus Co., based in Lilse, Ill., the company that manufactured the bus involved in a Oct. 29, 2012 crash that claimed the lives of two Head Start children and caused injuries and long lasting repercussion to mental and physical abilities of those involved.

    The lawsuits filed on behalf of the Caroline Tuttle and Ryder Deitz families, Tina Gividen, Jordan Raisor, Mariah Robles, Jose Ardon-Landa and Brayden Jones are all part of this trial.

  • Fentanyl, heroin mix could be cause of latest overdoses

    Local police and EMS responded to five overdose-related calls in a two-day period, including one fatality. Police believe all of the overdoses except one were related to heroin.

    “Obviously there is a bad batch of heroin going around the county right now with that many overdoses in the same time period,” Carrollton Police Chief Mike Willhoite said. “More than likely, it came from the same distributor, so we are going to investigate and try to determine who sold the heroin those people. If we find out, we will try to seek federal charges.”
