  • Downey named new CCHS football head coach

    After spending his entire coaching career in Madison, Ind., Lee Downey has finally made it to the Kentucky side of the Ohio River, taking the reins as the new head football coach for Carroll County High School. Downey was formally introduced to players and community members Tuesday, after being officially hired March 18.

    Downey replaces Mike Weedman, who coached the Panthers for eight seasons, posting an overall 44-45 record, 3-8 last year.

  • Girls tennis team is plagued with injuries early on

    Carroll County girls’ tennis team found out this week that No. 1 singles player Sarah McArter will be out the rest of the year with a back injury.

  • Baseball drops opener to Boone

    Walking the leadoff batter rarely has a positive result. The Carroll County Panthers’ baseball team found out the hard way on opening day March 18, walking the leadoff in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings and losing 5-2 to Boone County.

    Wow, where did the winter go? It seems like just yesterday snow was everywhere, and we were all sick of winter coats! Now it’s in the 60’s and 70’s and our world is greening up right before our eyes. That being said, it’s supposed to be in the 40’s for the highs in the next few days so maybe I’m jumping the gun a tad bit. I do know that the sun is shining, and the birds are singing and, frankly, that’s enough for me.

  • O’Banion, Van Diver win Retired Teachers Association awards
  • Entries requested for Gentry art show

    The Carroll County Public Library will be presenting the Mary Ann Gentry Memorial Art Show during the months of April and May.

    The annual show consists of framed or mounted paintings, drawings, sculptures, photographs and multimedia items. New artist are welcome as well as those who have participated in previous years. In order to provide enough space they will accept two pieces per owner, not previously displayed.
