  • Carroll County boys’ golf season to begin August 18

Carroll County High School’s boys’ golf team has a new coach when Duke Boles accepted the position early this summer after school was over.

Boles takes over for Josh Mefford who resigned after coaching the team for three years.

The team currently has two seniors, Justin Ray and Dru Walker, and two sophomores, Blake Belcher and Caleb Stephenson on the roster. Boles had the first look at his team at its opening practice on August 4.

  • Season success starts in the summer
  • Athletic complex construction full speed ahead
  • Prepping for Fridays

The Carroll County High School football team is enduring two-a-day-practices following dead period. Practicing in just helmets and shoulder pads for now, they will begin practicing in their full pads Aug. 1.

  • Athletic complex on schedule

The construction is on schedule and the turf company is on-site ready to begin work at the Carroll County High School athletic complex. The grade work is complete and the field will actually be a foot higher than the current grade, RossTarrant Project Manager Eric Steva reported to the Board of Education June 18. Drainage for the athletic field will be installed in the foundation.

The drainage to take the water across the road to the big pond also is complete, he said.

  • Promoted: Crank named head basketball coach

After 11 years as an assistant and junior varsity basketball coach, Brian Crank is finally getting his opportunity to take the wheel, accepting the Carroll County High School boys basketball head coaching position.

Crank will replace Carroll Yager, who coached the Panthers to a 76-111 record over seven seasons. The team was 40-42 the past three seasons with Crank on the coaching staff.
