  • Panthers golf underway

    The Carroll County High School boys golf team played its first three matches last week, all on the road.

    The first match was Aug. 7, against Villa Madonna at World of Golf in Florence, Ky. Villa Madonna won the 18-hole match, but Carroll head coach Will Yager was unsure of the final score. Carroll shot a 476. Adam Froman shot the best score with a 78. Dane Lacefield shot a 93 in his first golf match, followed by Conner Hartman, 96; Josh Adams, 104; and Jaxon Hewitt, 105, also playing his first match.

    Carroll County adults took to the field this summer in Carroll County Parks and Recreation’s wiffle ball league.

  • National Hunting, Fishing Day...

    The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources invites people of all ages to celebrate hunting, fishing and the great outdoors at the Salato Wildlife Education Center in Frankfort on Saturday, Aug. 11.

    “This is a great way for beginners of any age to receive a fun, hands-on introduction to fishing and shooting sports,” said Salato Conservation Educator Geoff Roberts.

    Those of us who wade rocky streams for smallmouth or tailwaters for trout sometimes bite off more than we can chew.

    An eddy on the other side of the stream looks inviting and the more you stare at it, the more you want to cast there. The only problem is a waist-deep run with strong current lies between you and the enticing water.

  • Rotary, CCHS boys golf partner...

    The Rotary Club of Carrollton is partnering with the Carroll County High School boys golf team to host a fundraising golf scramble on Wednesday, Sept. 12, at Fairway Golf Course in Wheatley, Ky.

    Lunch will be served at noon, and tee off will be 1 p.m. The team entry fee (four people per team) is $300. Hole sponsorships are $100. Make checks payable to Rotary Club of Carrollton.

  • RVFC recognized

    The City of Carrollton issued a proclamation July 23, to recognize the River Valley Futbol Club, a non-profit organization that was formed in 2017 to serve the youth of Carroll County. There are 45 youth participating, ages 8-14. RVFC finished its season with all three teams playing in the State Recreational Cup. The 10U team won first place and the 14U team won second place.

  • Bell overcomes spin to win Alsco...

    A spin in the final round of NASCAR Xfinity Series qualifying on Friday at Kentucky Speedway set up a rousing run through the Alsco 300 field by Christopher Bell.

    The 23-year-old rookie methodically made his way from the back to the front to win for the second time this season and third time in 25 career starts in the Xfinity Series.
