Carroll County baseball and softball squared off in the first of two border battles this week on Tuesday in Carrollton with the Raiders taking the softball tilt 12-2 and the Panthers winning the baseball matchup 13-3 in 5 innings.

The Lady Raiders jumped out to a 6-0 lead through three innings with a two-run third and a three-run fourth before Carroll got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth. Trimble answered that and then some for the 12-2 10-run win.

Carroll baseball jumped on top 3-0 through two innings and 8-0 through three innings before the Raiders broke up the shutout with a three-run fifth inning.

Carroll bounced back offensively in the bottom of the fifth to tack on five more runs and end the contest early 13-3.

The Panthers and Raiders will be back in action for another softball-baseball border battle on Thursday in Bedford as they complete their regular season 31st District tourney seeding matchups.

Carroll baseball now stands 9-4 overall and 3-0 in the district while Trimble is 2-10 and 0-4 in the district. Trimble softball — winners of four straight including a 3-0 run to the All “A” regional championship last week — is now 9-6 overall and 2-2 in the district while Carroll is 2-6 and 1-2 in the district.
